Posted October 10, 200717 yr I was just wondering if birds who mate tend to stay with the same partner if given the choice, or if they change partners on a whim. I realise that if a partner is taken away from a bird, it will find a new mate, but if their partner is available to them that they have mated with, do they prefer to be with the same mate?
October 10, 200717 yr Budgies are very fickle creatures. They will change partners in a blink of an eye. I have had some budgies who stayed paired up with a particular partner long term, but most would be off and racing after another partner if given the chance Edited October 10, 200717 yr by KAZ
October 10, 200717 yr in my avairy i have a pair of yf2 geys that are unseperatable, if she goes down to the floor 9 times out of 10 he will be next to her. i didnt buy them paired up but they have been paired up since i brought them home
October 10, 200717 yr I think if birds are let pair with a partner of their choice, the union can be long lasting, but as some have said if a partner is lost for any reason, Budgies will soon seek another, I think some of the larger parrots are different & can suffer if their partner is lost. They do seem to have good long memories though, as often I have paired up Budgies in the cabinet in a way that I wish myself to achieve some breeding aim, but have often noticed that when they are put back into the aviary, they will often go back to the partner of their choice. Even though some time has passed.
