Posted October 8, 200717 yr Hi This is Harley and Lucy. They were paired by their own choosing in the aviary, but Lucy was being a pain to one of my other hens so I brought them inside to see how they went. They have an egg! So fingers crossed I will eventually have some babies from them. I would dearly love another Harley and we suspect he is a bit old, so he will be retired after this clutch. Can anyone please tell me about their colours. I know they arent the best pics, its hard to take them close enough inside without too much flash. Also, what are my chances that I might get another "Harley" from these two? Any opinions? Lucy does have the white wing tips, she is not all yellow. Slightly better photo of their colouring as this was in the aviary before I brought them in Edited October 8, 200717 yr by Feathers
October 8, 200717 yr Hi Sunnie, Harley looks like a Yellow face type 2 skyblue opaline and lucy looks like a creamino. This means both birds are blue series, so you could end up with another Harley. All birds will be yellow faced blues. If Harley is split for ino then you may have creamino's too. Feathers.
October 9, 200717 yr Author Well Harley and Lucy have two eggs, so I am really hopeful I will have babies from them :offtopic: They both seem to be happy and doing well, they are actually in my lounge room, but high on a cabinet and not in a walkway area, so they must be feeling reasonably settled their if she is laying I guess. Just thought I would add also, I am joining my local budgie association and am going to my first meeting Friday night and I'm very excited Edited October 10, 200717 yr by Sunnie
October 10, 200717 yr With that mating Sunnie you should get some that look like Harley, but I’m afraid they will all be hens, not cocks like him, as Opaline is sex linked & will show in his daughters. Good luck, I hope he is not too old.
October 10, 200717 yr Author Aaaarrrrgh I have hens coming out of my ears!! (Laughing out loud) Oh well, they will still be pretty hens hehe. Thanks for your opinions/comments people :hap:
October 11, 200717 yr Aaaarrrrgh I have hens coming out of my ears!! LOL Me too....Most of my babies lately are hens :hap:
October 12, 200717 yr You could get male opaline too, if mum is opaline. She could be you just don't see it. The ino will mask opaline. Unless you know her breeding then she could be.

October 13, 200717 yr Author I havent actually seen any "action" between the pair and they have three eggs but the eggs look very light and "feel empty". Can this be the case?
October 13, 200717 yr Author I dont know anything about candling yet. This is the first time I have touched an egg.
October 13, 200717 yr get a strong torch and shine it really close to the egg around day 5 and look for red veins. If you have to handle the egg to try this then wash your hands first and dry with paper towels (better than cloth)
