Update On My Tcb’s:

Featured Replies

What a pain about the feather plucking Norm. Seems every time we think we have a reason to be happy about a result or to have hope, something comes along and stuffs it up. Hopefully your chicks will regrow and do well. I have all my fingers crossed for you anyway

Thanks Kaz, yes there always seems plenty of complications.

Well after those chicks were feather plucked & I put them on the floor of the cabinet, things didn't look like they were going well, I saw the mother feed one once, but the cock just kept feeding her & the chicks didn't look happy so in desperation I tried fostering the two TCB's with another pair that had 5 chicks at about the same age & they were accepted & the three Lutinos where taken away & put in the young bird aviary, where the youngest is struggling a bit, but they are slowly starting to eat. I find if a bird is being fed a couple of times a day it will continue begging for food, even if it doesn't get much, but once it's on it's own it soon starts to feed itself.

Things are not out of the woods yet, but I have the three hen Opaline TCB's that are feathered, one is already in the aviary feeding it's self, the other two with the foster & one left the nest yesterday. Then the TCB to TCB has three Lutinos & 4 TCB's so I'm up to 7 TCB's now…so I'm off & going with Texas Clearbodies.

Some pictures as soon as they look presentable.

At last yesterday I got my rings after waiting something like a month, the story is that they were delivered to a neighbour of the ring secretary & then returned to the makers & then had to come back again. With a lot of trouble I got rings on 5 birds, but have about 20 birds that missed out on rings & now as luck would have it, I hardly have any birds that require rings for some time.

Just a few pictures of some of my young TCB's, this is the youngest of the batch that got feather plucked.

One from the same batch a little older & still showing signs of being feather plucked.

I wanted to take some pictures of the TCB to TCB pair's young as they seem to be a beautiful Yellow colour, probably the desired colour...but I ran out of time...pictures soon.

The babies look great Norm :D

Thanks Kaz, I have always liked Opalines & birds with Yellow colouring with dark wing markings, so I'm petty keen on the TCB.

Thanks Pie...yes it was a bit slow at first but I should have a few ready to breed next year now...what with the 7 TCB's & the splits.

Hey Norm, Just thought you might like to hear about a really nice texas clearbody at last nights show. Judge passed comment on how especially nice it was and indeed it made it to the top bench last night. He inquired of the breeder hwo she got such a gorgeous bird.....she had bought it at the bird shop where she worked....where the breeders cull their birds :hap:

Thanks for that Kaz, it looks good doesn't it…nice head…if you listen to the showers over here you would think that that's all birds have [heads]…nothing else seems to matter that much…(Laughing out loud)…you've gotta be lucky & at the right place at the right time…

Thanks Nerwen…

I think I'm going to another bird show Sunday so might see some nice birds...I don't think I'm buying any more at the moment.

I think I’ve got about 300 odd young birds that need a bit of moulting so I can do some culling, what with seed the price it is…so I’m behaving myself at least for the moment.

A front shot of the first TCB to leave the nest from the TCB to TCB pair.

TCBp1.jpg

Back shot of the same chick...it's an Opaline TCB. Sorry the picture is not that sharpe.

Lutino-2.jpg

A picture of one of the three hen Lutinos in the same batch, as the Father is split for Lutino. The special trait that TCB's have is that the cocks can't be split for Lutino & TCB in the same bird...they are either one or the other.

Thanks Kaz, some look better than others of course, I'm starting to get a few that look good from the show type birds, other than the TCB's as well.

Some more pictures of my young TCB's from the TCB to TCB mating.

TCB2-1.jpg

A back picture of two of the Opaline ones to show their wing pattern.

TCBp3.jpg

A front picture of one of them, showing the colour of the breast, quite Yellow I think the desired colour, it will be good to see what it moults out like.

TCBp2.jpg

And of the other, it's hard getting good pictures of them at this age, as all they want to do is run away, unless held & that doesn't show them that well. The colour of most of the TCB to TCB looks good to me, without being mated to a Lutino, the father of course is split for Lutino.

TCBc1a.jpg

A picture of the wing pattern on the other chick, which is Normal patttern, like it's Father. I also wonder if this is also Cinnamon or just weak pattern [a fault] as far as I know the Father hasn't got Cinnamon in it's breeding but the records don't go back far. It's one of the largest of the batch, got good size, if it's a hen I will maybe know if it's Cinnamon.

TCBc1b.jpg

The front of the Normal one, got quite a bit of Green suffusion [a fault] the three Opaline young in this batch have better colour than both parents.
