I know that the male's cere doesnt change colour in a recessive pied (well this is what I have been told) so can you sex young budgies from a recessive pied pair, or do you have to wait until the hen colours to tell? I hope this question makes sense Three of my babies are almost white with the tiniest bits of blue on them and the tiniest flecks of cinnamon on their wings. The last has darker heavier markings, not like any of the others. Two out of the four have just fledged

I would say post a picture please...I had a recessive pied boy .

you say they've got cinnamon on their wings... well that means if the mums not a cinnamon you've got little hens because the cock must be split so atleast ya know that but if mum's cinnamon it means dads split so could be of both sex... so fingers crossed mums not a cinnamon...

If the hen is a cinnamon and the chicks are cinnamon then the cock is either a cinnamon or split to one.

 

If you post a photo of a chick over 3 weeks we should be able to tell the sex. Make sure the room is lit well and don't use a flash.

What's the chances of getting all hens? Does that happen often, cause from what I'm seeing/learning, they all have that clear pinkish cere and look like hens to me. Not that it matters, I'm just interested
