Sexing Young Budgies

I know that the male's cere doesnt change colour in a recessive pied (well this is what I have been told) so can you sex young budgies from a recessive pied pair, or do you have to wait until the hen colours to tell? I hope this question makes sense :D Three of my babies are almost white with the tiniest bits of blue on them and the tiniest flecks of cinnamon on their wings. The last has darker heavier markings, not like any of the others. Two out of the four have just fledged :D

Recessive pieds are the hardest to sex when young. I usually find that my first impression at age 2-3 weeks is mostly always right, and if I try working it out after that age and before the first moult I usually get it wrong :D

(Laughing out loud) I guess I'm too late to submit my pictures for your guessing. Oh well it's not that important to me, whatever will be, will be :D

I would say post a picture please...I had a recessive pied boy :D.

you say they've got cinnamon on their wings... well that means if the mums not a cinnamon you've got little hens because the cock must be split :D so atleast ya know that :( but if mum's cinnamon it means dads split so could be of both sex... so fingers crossed mums not a cinnamon... :D

(Laughing out loud) wouldnt you know it, it's the mum that's cinnamon :D

I will try to get some good pics of their ceres in the next day or two :(

haha well then... either sex :( ah wells ya win some you lose some but hey cinnamon cocks r still good :D

If the hen is a cinnamon and the chicks are cinnamon then the cock is either a cinnamon or split to one.

If you post a photo of a chick over 3 weeks we should be able to tell the sex. Make sure the room is lit well and don't use a flash.

This was taken of the oldest, who has just fledged, on the 23rd of Sept. I dont know if it is any good, I dont have any good clear ones in the last couple of days yet.

What's the chances of getting all hens? Does that happen often, cause from what I'm seeing/learning, they all have that clear pinkish cere and look like hens to me. Not that it matters, I'm just interested

Funny you should say that, I am getting almost all hens out of nestboxes right now too. :D

I have this feeling all four in each of my first clutches might be all hens (Laughing out loud). I would kinda like it if the two with Tommy were boys though, cause my partner describes them "little knights with their armour on" hehe.
