Hi All!

I am New here :), I am located in Victoria & share my life with a menagerie of wonderful pets:). Including cockatiels, an Eclectus Parrot, an Alexandrine & I just got a new baby budgie on Sunday. I have been around animals ALL my life & have had budgies in the past too. My new little guy is just 2 weeks out of the nest & I have named him Zeus. I am assuming it's a HIM anyways!!. So far he is not quiet enough to actually SIT on me but when he sees my hand in his cage he'll slowly walk up to it for a look, then he'll walk back to the corner of the cage. If I put my hair against the cage he comes up & chews it :D .. Also when I put a new toy in his cage he goes & looks at it straight away. he'll also sit there warbling througout the day :D . He has a yellowish tinge to his face..like instead of the cheek patches being white they have a yellow tinge..will that go white as he gets older? I have never seen them with a yellow tinge in their face....

I am REALLY hoping he gets tame enough to come out of his cage & sit on me etc. As I have not had a tame budgie in AGES, in the past they've always been older when I've gotten them & have never tamed down. For the fist day I just left him alone so as not to frighten him. Then yesterday I would go & stand in fornt of the cage several times in the day & I'd talk to him, blow rasberries, talk stupid.....eg... hey there budgue wudgie!! etc...(He;s going to learn to say some daft things hey?? :P ).. Today I put my hand in the cage & he wasn't scared at all..he also chewed my hair when when I put my head against the cage..

Anyways here are some photos...am I right in thinking he's a boy?

Hi EarthAngel and welcome to the forum.

The people here are very knowledgeable and helpful :D

I'm not one of them though, I'm fairly new myself. From what I have learned though, whatever your budgie's colour is, is the colour he will stay. I'm not experienced enough to tell the sex of such a young budgie, but i did want to say what a cutie he is :P

Hi the earthangel and welcome :P Sounds like you are an experienced pet owner. Your new budgie is a real cutie. He or she ( I wait for clearer photos ) is a yellowface type 2 skyblue normal budgie. The mask area which shows yellowish right now will become a darker yellow with its first moult. The blue of its body colour will most likely become a greenish colour also with its first moult, as the yellowface gene causes a colour bleed through the blue making is greenish.

Anyway, all sounds good so far with the socialization. Have fun here. Theres lots to learn and chat about.

Cheers Kaz

Hi and welcome :P . You are going to love it here - it's a great forum :D . Your budgie is little cutie.

Hey all TY for the welcome :) It would seem Zeus man won't let me get a good piccy of him/her at this stage :) .. Here is another one..I decided Not to resize it to see if that helps any, But I gather this picture is no better....http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e232/MegzzPetzz/ZEUS.jpg
Try using your MACRO setting for closeup photos :P But, in saying that even with the fuzzy photo...Zeus looks like a boy to me :D.................PS I have a budgie in my aviary that started out looking like your Zeus. I will take a picture of him for you to see what he may look like when fully grown.
:) A big BBC welcome to you Earth Angel, I have a menagarie of birds as well. Love your little guy/girl and may you enjoy the forum and all the information and tidbits it has to offer, may I suggest you start at the FAQS. :P

most digital cameras that have the macro feature will have a button with a flower image on it.
