January 27, 200520 yr Just an update-I followed everybody's advice on how to encourage Budgy2 to fly a bit more and I have to report it has worked! He is a lot trimmer and more active and can now do three circuits without gasping. Julie
January 27, 200520 yr Bravo for Julie's Budgy2! My fattest one really is not into exercise at all, she just sits in the cage, even when all the other birds are out. She sits so expectantly too, right next to where I usually clip the broccoli...and just patiently waits...and waits.... budgeover, A lot of people do measure out food. I thought about it, because I have some that could stand to lose a few grams, but with so many it would be hard to make sure no one goes hungry because some piggie budgie ate more than her fair share... You can always try measuring seed, maybe start on the weekend when you will be there all the time so you can see when the food runs out. Then you will have a better idea if yours is eating too much or not. You say he doesn't look fat. Are you just worried because of the number?
January 28, 200520 yr Rainbow that's what Budgy2 is like-just LIVES for food. I've spent a lot of time trying to keep him moving when he's out now-think I may have lost a few pounds myself trying to do it! Julie

To me that seems a lot for a budgie.
January 30, 200520 yr Hi everyone, I just had a thought... In humans muscle weighs more than fat, maybe this applies to budgies. So birds that live in aviaries or have free flight in the house might weigh more. So they are heavier than the average weight but still very healthy Just a thought... Budgiedude

Budgiedude <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You actually might be right, thats a very interesting thought. Afterall budgies need strong and flexable muscles during exercise and flying especially.
