Well, even though I wasn't planning on breeding this Autum, they thought differently! (Laughing out loud)

So I pulled the pair from the aviary after She laid an egg in the seed dispencer! They are now set up in the house with a box and their egg. I am not 100% sure she laid the egg Sunday, it wasnt their saturday am, when i refilled the seeds.

Anyways, here is the happy couple,

Lilo:

And

Mickey:

What will the outcome be from this pair? F/albino M/dom pied???

Good luck with the pair! :)

The fact that there is an Albion in the picture makes it difficult to predict the outcome, as for a start we don’t know what she is masking [her genetical self] she is an Albion but she could also be a Spangle, Normal or anything else for that matter.

That being said, you should have about a 50% chance of Dominant Pieds, if he is split for Blue you can have them in either the Green or Blue series. All male young will be splits for Albino or Lutino [ino]. You could get some Normals in both colours & then there is the unknown of the Albino & any Recessives they both carry & sex linked mutations the cock may carry, if he carries Red Eye you could get some Ino’s too of both sexes. Good luck you can look forward to some surprises.

Thanks Norm... yes, i dont know her history at all. He produced a rec pied, and dom pieds when he bred a few years back with a different hen. all were green/yellows, but i have no clue if that came from him or her. So only the males will be split for ino's, no girls will be? It will be a great surprise! As of now, she's got no interest in the box, so she may not have anymore period! (Laughing out loud)... time will tell!

Females can't carry sex linked mutations, they are only visually sex linked colours like Ino, Cinnamon, Opalines & others. It's carried on the sex chromosome, only males can be not visual sex linked colours & still carry it in the split form.

If she had the egg she should be interested in the box..:)

She doesn't look like she layed an egg..:(

if she laid the egg elsewhere then she hasn't yet accepted this nest box as her's and safe.

I agree with norm with the outcomes.

The dominant pied looks to me to be a double factor dominant pied

Good luck to you... i don't know what type of breed it will be but it will be attractive :rip:

If mine drop eggs in the aviary they go stright to the box when I put them in and lay the next egg in there and it's on time too.

Good luck Buuz..

She laid the egg in the aviary, no boxes are in there. She laid one more egg in the box, but didnt go in there at all for a week. The eggs were stone cold :D She spent all the time pacing back & forth calling to the aviary birds outside and had no interest in the box. They both have gone back into the aviary. I will try with them in the spring (when i normally breed! (Laughing out loud))

Don't feel to bad Buuz.. Next time you'll have lots of bubs..:)

I'm actually glad, since i dont normally breed them in the Autum, just in the spring.

There was another egg on the aviary floor, but there are a few with the possible egg bums. Whats with them! (Laughing out loud)

okay... A bit of advice needed....

Since putting her back into the aviary last weekend, she has continued to drop eggs (3) Should I pull her and her mate again, and put them into the cage with the box? maybe try a different part of the house, so her focus IS the box?

bump!!!

I pulled them both over the weekend, she has 2 eggs in the box, but still wont go inside, and also laid one from a perch that cracked when it hit the grate on the bottom :D

At any time I think they need a few days to get settled, I know she was laying eggs before she was put in the cabinet, but mine always are unsettled for two or three days, trying to get back to the aviary birds. Your winters probably aren’t that cold there are they? So if you want to let her breed, I would suggest just let her settle you may loose the first few eggs, but once she settles she will start a new round & then probably look after them okay.

Well, after 25 days, she laid a total of 3 in the cage, none in the box, and all were stone cold. She has now gone out of condition and stopped laying (yay!) so they are back in the aviary again.
