Posted September 24, 200717 yr Hi guys I was just wondering if Bebe will now be a grey baby or if he/she will change colour to cobalt like her mother, as she/he gets older.
September 25, 200717 yr If she was going to be a cobalt budgie her first feathers would have been cobalt
September 25, 200717 yr okay....thank you So Bebe is a she? Sorry. Figure of speech. have you a front on photo so I can see the cere a little better ?
September 25, 200717 yr Author There is a 50% chance its a hen I think it is a hen. (Laughing out loud)......she bites and bosses like a hen, but she's still my favourite in that clutch. I dont have a front on picture of her yet, I will try to get one tomorrow In another post I received information on the colouring of her parents "Tommy is a dominant pied cobalt. Or maybe visual violet (Gypsy might be too)" So is this what babies this pair would throw (referring to the two grey chicks), or is it possible a grey cock I had in the same aviary previously mated with Gypsy first? Of course I know nothing about colouring, but I find it odd I have grey babies from parents who both have blue colouring. Any comments welcome Edited September 25, 200717 yr by Sunnie
September 25, 200717 yr Your baby may be a mauve not a grey When l first looked at the photo that is what l thought, she/he looks like a mauve and not a grey.
September 26, 200717 yr Well she has very blue cheeks! (Laughing out loud) That's the key to telling grey from mauve. Grey's will have grey/silver cheek patches Mauves have blue ones. This bub (and the other one) got a dark factor gene from both of the parents. I would guess at a hen as well.
September 26, 200717 yr Author Thanks guys.......youre all so good at helping and giving advice to us newbies. Bebe took her first little flight indoors when I had her out today, but she hasnt fledged from her box as such yet. I tried to take a better picture of her cere this afternoon, but she's such an active little tyke, I got one on the left side and one on the right side and then one really blurry one right in the middle (Laughing out loud) :(Laughing out loud): I will try again tomorrow :yellowhead:
