October 19, 200717 yr Author hi everyone, new update: we now have 12 babies, with the last hatching today (it was the last of all the eggs to hatch, a few were infertile). eldest is starting to get alot of pin feathers, looks like some are a purplely colour. also looks like the eldest in cabinet 1 (looks like her eyes are getting quite red now, will either be an ino or lutino, there is also another bub in this cabinet with red eyes (hasnt opened them yet). correct me if im wrong, but once again is it the male that carries the ino gene? the hen is a yellow face....i will update pictures on sunday when i get a moment. cheers, kate

October 19, 200717 yr the picture you posted of the parents http://i219.photobucket.com/albums/cc160/b...rl/P9240041.jpg of the opaline bub looks like the female is an opaline... a non-opaline lacewing should have markings on cheeks, back of head, neck, wings and tail of cinnamon brown color. And yours has the opaline no marking look on her back if that's the case than your opaline chick would be male since visual sexlinked hen will pass the trait visually only to a male. feel free to correct me but that's according to http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/index....showtopic=13868 & http://www.bestofbreeds.net/al-nasser/article10.htm
October 19, 200717 yr I agree with Ravengypsy, that your Lacewing is also Opaline…if she is Opaline & you have an Opaline chick, the cock bird must be split for Opaline. If you have a hen that is not Opaline & you get an Opaline chick, it means your cock must be split for Opaline & the chick can only be a female. If you have an Opaline hen & the cock is not split for Opaline, you will not get visual Opalines, but all cocks will be split for it. If you have an Opaline hen & the cock is Opaline or split for it, you then have the chance of getting Opaline chicks of both sexes. Kate I could have told you your Lacewing was an Opaline Lacewing, but as I am on dial up it takes too long for me to download your pictures, so I hadn't looked at your photos. If you could reduce them down to the required 450 x 450 in future it would help & select "insert image" when posting. Edited October 19, 200717 yr by Norm
October 19, 200717 yr Author thanks for the info everyone! it is hard to get a look at her now because she wont budge from outside the nest box (she's a good mummy). the little opaline chick seems like he is going to be a bit of a character, he is always sitting near the back of the box when i open it and pokes his head out, he also doesnt mind being petted either. i will take some pictures this afternoon after work if the lighting is okay.. all bubs doing well so far, including the one i transferred from nest box 3. cheers, kate.
October 22, 200717 yr Author hey everyone! so i have finalllyyyy taken some good piccies of the bubba's. firstly, we have the eldest chick in cabinet 2 (the little opaline bub, which i believe we agree upon being a male?). i think he is going to be very pretty, looks like he is going to be a violet opaline (the flash on my camera makes him look blue, but so far his feathers a a soft purple). i doubt i will let him go! http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...ck/PA220208.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...ck/PA220209.jpg other cabinet 2 chicks: http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...tchick/cab2.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...ck/cabinet2.jpg the rest are still fairly naked.... here are the chicks in cabinet 1. the little naked chick also has red eyes. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...tchick/cab1.jpg cabinet 1 bubs: what do you think? http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...ck/cab1bubs.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...ick/cab1bub.jpg this little fluffy bub is actually from cabinet 2: opaline as well??? http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi.../cab2incab1.jpg the ino chick: i think it may be cremino as it looks to have some feathers that are white??? http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u286/mi...ick/cab1ino.jpg i would love to know what you all think of the bubs, and what types you think they are! cheers, kate

November 13, 200717 yr Author hey everyone! well all 12 bubs are doing great! so far 7 of them have moved to the nursery (where they are being closely watched) and will be joined in the next few days by 2 more.... firstly: the bubs from cabinet 1: eldest chick from cabinet 1: turned out to be cremino yellowface chick last chick in cabinet 1: this one is albino at some stage this cabinet 1 bub was transfered to cabinet 2: pretty yellowface violet!! cabinet 2 bubs: the eldest bub from cabinet 2: not a very good idea of colouring, he is more a soft violet colour, very cute personality... three cabinet 2 bubs: i have called the middle one pudding, as he is a big bird, larger than the parents (Laughing out loud) another green from cabinet 2: this one is opaline though remaining bubs in cabinet 2: (including one from cabinet 1 (the yf violet, and the bub that came from cabinet 3 (the green dominant pied) in the background as well as a blue one, which i think will be cobalt rather than skyblue. youngest of all bubs: i think blue opaline pied??? nursery shot: so all up, five more to leave the nest boxes and the hen from cabinet 1 has laid another egg.... not sure if i will let her go another round in this heat though.... cheers!
