Posted September 19, 200717 yr Hi 2 of our hens which are about 9-10 mths old have been piercing holes in their eggs. What is the reason?? One of them this is her second round all of her 1st round was clear but this time she has destroyed 2. Please can someone help Thanks Crissie
September 19, 200717 yr If this is the second round and your hens are 9-10 months old, it may well be because they are too young. Recommended breeding age for hens is 12 months or older. The younger ones always seem to have problems. Even the 12 month olds can do silly things with eggs. They either addle them as they dance around inside the nestbox or they eat them not knowing the eggs came from them in the first place. Edited September 19, 200717 yr by KAZ
