Posted September 17, 200717 yr okay, so it's like this. The parents have started pecking all the babies now, and they don't feed them anymore. Only one of them knows how to break open seeds to eat them, the others have no idea. The baby birds sit next to their parents, chirping and rubbing their beaks against theirs, but the parents do not feed them. We are suspecting that the parents are trying to get the babies away (they are all 6 weeks old if not older) and that they may be trying to start a new nest. The smallest one has absoloutly no energy, and she cannot sit on a perch. She is now asleep in my sisters hand. None of them will eat the baby food that we have in a syringe, they reject it. Please help ASAP

Please help ASAP These babies need to be in a warm hospital cage immediately and they need to be crop fed. Find a bird expert anywhere you can and get them crop fed or hand them over to someone who can do it for you. At six weeks they should be eating alone by now. They sound very weak. Having not been fed for more than a day is life threatening to them. There may be an illness. Some parents also abandon feeding when the chicks are ill. Of course, also when wanting to start a new nest. Another solution is to take the hen out and just leave the Dad in there to feed the chicks. How old are the parents ?
September 17, 200717 yr As Iread this, the chicks are 6 weeks old. They should be able to feed themselves. They will soon learn .Put them with a old cock bird & he will show them the way. :feedbirds:
September 17, 200717 yr I agree with Macka, at 6 weeks they should be able to feed themselves, if the parents are attacking them, the first thing is to remove them to another cage & if they look stressed keeping them warm would help. At that age most of my chicks would already be in the aviary with other young birds, they are often quite for a few days, but soon feed slowly, but if they are begging their parents to feed & they wont that is only wasted energy. I find that if with other birds that wont feed them, but let them see others feeding they will soon follow.
