Yellowface Gene

hi guys i'm trying to work out the parenthood of one of my chicks from the incubator... in the process of fostering out this chick it went to 2 different mothers with a possiblity of 3 different parents... long story short... can a blue bird carry the yellowface gene without showing it? then i can pin point the parents thanks any info will help :)

Yes a double factor yellow face type 1 bird appears as a normal whiteface bird. A type 2 bird still has a yellowface.

hmm that still has me in a pickle then because the offspring is a type 2 haha :)

Then I would say have a closer look at your 'green' birds. Sometimes a yellowface/goldenface can look very green all over. Try to look under the wings for blue feathers (as this is a sign of yellowfaces)

okay will do:) the three options for parents are as follows

yf2 recessive pied hen x dark green spangle/blue cock (5 other babies produced... 3 normal greens a normal spangle and a yf2 spangle)

normal violet hen x sky blue spangle cock.... unknown splits for either

grey green normal hen x light green cinnamon wing opaline cock... unknown splits again

either way the baby definatly came from one of their nests i just have nfi which one i'll definatly mark chicks somehow next time :) the egg was marked but once it hatched the same time as 3 other chicks we lost track :)

ah wells doesnt change the outcome still a gorgeous bubby thanks for your help nerwen :D

yf2 recessive pied hen x dark green spangle/blue cock

I would look to this pair as the first choice of parents even more so if they have produced a YF before. Getting the YF gene and a normal blue gene makes the bub a yf since this is dominant to the normal blue gene.

normal violet hen x sky blue spangle cock.... unknown splits for either

Not possible from these two since both have white faces they can't be split for YF.

grey green normal hen x light green cinnamon wing opaline cock... unknown splits again

With not knowing the split it's possible that they could produce a YF.
