Posted September 16, 200717 yr My eyes do not believe what I am seeing. One of my hens has 8 babies, the eldest is 17 days the youngest 2 days. As this is her 2nd clucth, I was sure most eggs would be infertile, she laid 9, as luck was on my side the last was infertile. All babies are well fed, sleep lots, and only squawk at feeding times. The other has 6 babies from 9 eggs, which is a far better size clutch. Both 'daddy birds' are eating me out of house and home and get very excited when they see fresh food coming through the door. :feedbirds: I will have to watch closely and remove Mum if she even looks like laying any more eggs. I let both sets of Parents out for a fly and play in the aviary (they are in breeding cabinets) every day, in the hope she will not lay again. Cindy
September 16, 200717 yr Wow. Excellent result Cindy. Hope the littlest ones survive their much bigger brothers and sisters, well enough
September 19, 200717 yr Author All is going well and the younger ones are looking very healthy. I've been ckecking them all over every day, especially their legs as they all seem to be sleeping on top of each other and I'm worried about splayed legs. The older ones love pecking all over you hand and one little one in between youngest and oldest tries to climb out of the box whenI open the lid, it is a green one and really cheeky I will try to get pics later today Cindy
September 19, 200717 yr Author well here are a few pics, sort off, as they won't keep still Thes are the clutch of 8 you will see one popping out from under Mom near her tail and one just behind the biggest one These are the other clutch of six, you can see the green one trying to look up to get out This is the youngest of the six Cindy
September 21, 200717 yr Author Updated pics,, excuse rusty wire on cage front, it was only used as a tempory holding area while I cleaned our their very dirty nesting boxes and i knew they were too young to peck at it(8 babies are too much to hold in one small hand ) The clutch of 8 First born looks like a giant compared to his youngest sibling and the clutch of 6 All looking healthy Cindy
September 21, 200717 yr it looks like you have a rainbow of colours amazing yeah congratulate sorry i had said it to cindy Edited September 21, 200717 yr by Broli
September 21, 200717 yr You certainly have a lot of colours in that batch Cindy & they are looking real well.
September 22, 200717 yr Author Thanks, they are so cute and I just love the way they look up at you when you open the nest box, not at all scared. Two of them are a beige/grey colour at the moment and have brown markings on their wings, the yellow ones have all different colours on there tummy, pale green, pale blue and a deeper blue like his dad, so it will be interesting to see how they turn out. I think the one with the green tummy is female as it is the only one that has tried to bite me so far. Cindy
