Posted September 14, 200717 yr howdi to all I found this site last night and decided to join tonight. I have had pet budgies as a kid growing up, and decided to get another baby 2 days ago. His a lil boy and my kids & I decided to call him Oscar. His still fairly young, not perching much yet, prefers to still sit on the floor of his cage. He is eating well & so cheeky already!!!! When I get a chance to take a picture of him, I will. Then I have to figure out how to post the picture then hehehe. Im looking forward to reading all the forums and learning alot about this gorgeous bird :greenb: kindest regards Kim
September 14, 200717 yr Hi there Kim, welcome to the BBC forum. I would love to see photos of your new bird and you can find instructions on host to post them in my signature at the bottom of this post. It sounds like Oscar may have left the nest a little early if he still isn't perching, so keep an eye on him and make sure that he is actually eating, not just scrabling around in his seed. Maybe keep a small supply on soft millet on hand, both for training and to make sure that he is eating. Feathers.

Thankyou feathers for your reply im very new to this posting, so sorry if i make any mistakes doing so... the lady i brought oscar from gave me this mix to add to his seed in case he wasnt eating seed too well, egg & biscuit?? i cant remember exactely? anyway, I felt his crop (tummy) and it seems full after a feed. This avro he was climbing his cage and sat on the perch for about 1/2 hour, then went back down again. Thankyou for any advice you can give me, I appreciate it!!! September 14, 200717 yr Hi Kim, it sounds like you are doing everything right and the breeder has obviously given you good information. What colour is he? Feathers?
September 14, 200717 yr Hi Kimmy and welcome to the site. Did the lady give you an age for your little Ocar? As well as millet you can try a little bit of sprouts (snow pea) or some grated carrot. Also if he is spending time on the ground sprinkle the food down there for him to find (or even another shallow dish of seeds) to help him with eating. welcome again and feel free to ask anything but don't forget to check the FAQ area for heaps of info.
September 14, 200717 yr Hi Kimmy and Oscar. Welcome. You are going to love it here. Another suggestion for youngsters who arent sure of perches....my young ones LOVE little wooden ladders
September 14, 200717 yr hi, welcome l hope that you will have a pleasant time over here and l can hardly wait to see some pics of Oscar.
September 14, 200717 yr Welcome to the forum Kimmy and Oscar, you have lots of reading ahead as there is TONS of good advice regarding housing, training, budgie behaviour and nutrition. I have learned a lot and am looking forward to a picture of Oscar, just remember to adhere to the picture sizing rules. Thanks, welcome again and enjoy your new pal.
September 15, 200717 yr Hi Kim and Oscar! Welcome to the site. I look forward to seeing your new baby when you get a chance.
September 17, 200717 yr Author Thankyou to everyone to has given me a warm welcome!!!. This forum is EXCELLENT!!!!. thanku soooooo much for the advice you have also given me.....I would hate to do the wrong thing by my little man Oscar. Well, I have an update on him. his now perching most of the day now, whistling much more, when i was cleaning his cage out today, i was moving very slowly and the cheeky boy jumped on my hand, sat there for 30 seconds then started pruning himself!!!. Does this mean he trusts me to do that?. I stood there letting him do this for what seemed like ages, then I gently put him on his perch again. his eating out of a flat dish now, so I havent had to scatter seed on the floor of the cage. Anyways, Ive taken a picture of Oscar, just going to figure out on how to post it, so hopfully you will see him soon Kind regards Kim Edited September 17, 200717 yr by KAZ edited to allow photo to show
September 17, 200717 yr Hi Kimmy. I just edited your post to show your photo as it was actually within our size requisites. Your budgie is cute...very pretty yellowface blue. Are you sure its a boy ? looks female to me in that photo.
September 17, 200717 yr what a little cutie. Glad he seems to have settled in better now. Sound his behaviour before was simply nerves about the move and such rather than too young. Kaz - I would say male the cere looks very pink to me. It's great that he is happy with your hands if he is happy enough to do that than I would say start hand training now to get him to step up.
September 17, 200717 yr Author Ohhhhhhh, thanku soooo much for doing that for me kaz....very much appreciated His cere is very pink, to me its that pink it looks sore....(Laughing out loud), i thought the picture was too bright, his not that bright blue if you know what i mean, its raining here so i couldnt have him in natural light as its cold outside & i live in a very old dark house, so the flash really did its job (Laughing out loud). I might start finger training him tomorrow then if you think his ready. i also put a little grated carrot in his cage, he hasnt gone near it hehehe. Thanku again to everyone for their help, like i said before, this forum is excellent!!!
September 17, 200717 yr Sometimes cere colour is hard to show on different monitors. He's a pretty boy, that's for sure
September 17, 200717 yr Hi Kimmi, he is adorable Lovely colouring. Good luck with finger trainig him. You may find that if the breeder has already handled him a lot, that he breezes through most of the usual stages and is already fairly tame. Feathers.
September 17, 200717 yr Welcome to the forum, sound like your doing well, also sounds like he is pretty young so you shouldn’t have much trouble in training him. If he’s by himself he will look out for your company. I’m saying him, because he looks like a he to me, but we can always be wrong at that early stage.
September 17, 200717 yr Ahhh he is gorgeous Kim , I love yellow face blues :hap: he looks like he is a real sweetie . Welcome to the Forum Kim it is a great place to be.
September 25, 200717 yr Author Howdi!! Just an update on Oscar........He's chirping non stop, playing with his ladder, silly bugger goes thru the bars on it & sometimes falls off!! it seems he then looks around to make sure no one saw him fall...hehehe, soooo funny. He LOVES broccoli & spinach, ive given him grated carrot and apple, but he doesnt seem to bother trying it, but I will still keep offering it to him. he hops on my finger without hesitation, when can i start bringing him out of the cage? I dont want to do it too soon and scare him, thats the last thing i would want to do! Are budgies allowed to eat Kiwi fruit? ive got heaps of them & would love to try him on it if its okay for him. Anyways if i can think of anything else to ask you all, dont worry, I will hehehe
September 25, 200717 yr Hi and welcome, he is sure a cutie. I got my baby about the same stage as you and he is now a total chatterbox (Ive had him about 4 months) They bring you so much laughter with their antics. Mine also falls off ladders and carries huge things up to the top of his cage and drops them for sound effect! At the moment he has a piece of carrot in his beak and is running around the top of his cage, like a victory dance! Careful what you say around them, they are excellent mimics. Mine said bollocks the other day

Anyways if i can think of anything else to ask you all, dont worry, I will hehehe that is good that you will keep on giving him fresh food, here is a tip that l use on mine when they are trying something new, l sprinkle some millet seed over the new food. and after a while they will investigate it and they start to nibble, before you know it they are chowing down on the new food Kiwi is safe for budgies but make sure you wash them and also fruit is fine for a treat for them once and awhile but too much is not good for them.
