well a few weeks ago i paired 4 budgies in 2 different avairies and on sunday we had our first eggs layed by our hen

then on monday there was another in other hens nest box so altogether we have 3 eggs would have been 4 but one was smashed on the ground so will keep everyone posted over next few weeks

it seems a little narrow to have two nestboxes in if the boxes are both close to each other. Would you also have a few spare nestboxes in there so they have choices ? If you have nestboxes up the back, try not to have them so close to each other, and turn one or two of them so the entry isnt right next to each other when they enter the nestbox. Also are the nestboxes at the same height as each other ? How far apart ? One of the pairs obviously prefers the other nestbox. It's one of the hassles of colony breeding in close proximity. Worse can be when a pair enter anothers nestbox and kills the chicks just to claim the box as their own.

If you could get yourself a breeder cabinet and just pull out a pair at a time to breed in the breeder cabinet you may have a lot more success and less stress on the birds. Colony breeding requires a lot more space than you have, and constant watching over the relationships within to anticipate trouble.

Im not colony breeding i only have 1 pair in each compartment and 3 in last compartment which doesnt have a nest box

each pair has 2 nest boxes to chose i will get a new picture tomorrow to explain what i have

Sorry Maddi. I thought you meant their was another hen in the other hens nestbox..

Hey all

 

Just a quick update there is 5 eggs in one nest box first egg should hatch on thursday if fertile then in other nest box there is 4 eggs first should hatch on friday.

 

Very excited to see how thing are going to go anyhow will keep everyone updated over the next week

well another quick update we have 3 babies first was born on 30th so its starting to colour up now and last one was hatched yesterday both mum and dad are doing a great job raising them.
