Double Factor Dom Pied To A Recessive Pied...

What is the difference between the two mutations? Looking at pics of the two, i cant see any difference! Is it just the cere and iris ring?

In some cases colour wise there seems no difference, so I guess the iris & cere are the only guide, except that they are two completely different mutations.

The double factor dominant pieds I have had have had a whole lot less body colour than a recessive pied would have, and no wing markings. The body is mostly main ground colour with a darkish strong patch of the other colour over the rump area. Very little other markings. I can tell the difference between double factor dom pied and recessive in this way apart from the iris rings.

also look at the head markings DF dominant seems to keep the ones towards the back to make a pied spot! while the recessive have the few at the front that disappear. But the best way to check is with the cere colour then the iris rings as some DF dominant may only get one ring.

The only Recessive Pieds I have don't have any head bars on their head, only around their eyes. Here is what I mean.

yes that can happen too with recessive pied, what I was trying to point out was that often the double factor pied will still have the large pied mark on the head.

Thanks you very much for the replies!

Though they may look similar both mutations breed very differently and by mixing them together it makes predicting breeding results in the futute of any young produced extreamly hard to predict , as well if you show birds the young produced may not fit in either catagory .
