Posted January 9, 200520 yr I have had my budgie for 5 years, and he has always been a very good talker, but over the last couple of weeks he has stoped talking and squeaks a lot when he is breathing especialy after he has been flying. We took him to the vet and he got some antibiotics to put in his water for a week, we did this but he did not seem to get any better. The vet said it might be something stuck in he throat, but we don't know. Does anyone know what it could be or what i could do to help him, because he is still very happy, but seems lost without his voice. Can anyone help??? thanks :bluebudgie:
January 9, 200520 yr i dont know what this is, but i know that you should seek an alternative vet. budgies drink very little water and so medication should not be given via drinking water. budgies can go without water for several days. medication and antibiotics should always be given through a syringe/pipette straight into the mouth. it is possible that your budgie has a respiratory infection (presuming that is what the vet was trying to treat) and the antibiotics were ineffective as he did not get the correct dosage everyday from his water. i would take him back to the vets. hope he gets better soon x Edited January 9, 200520 yr by pixie25
January 10, 200520 yr I was at the vet today with one of my birds for a checkup and she was telling me the loss of voice, or different tone in the voice is a good sympton of a respiratory infection, she was telling me all the things to look out for and that just happened to be one, so i agree you should take it to a different vet for another opinion.
