Posted September 2, 200717 yr Yesterday I went and met Kaz and came home with two beauties from her Aviary, a violet opaline hen (who's name is Yasmin), and a blue / violet (un-named so far)male (I'm hopeless with getting the types right if anyone could help me out!) Here are some photo's! I left them alone yesterday to settle in & get acquainted with our dog. Our dog never barks, but I heard her barking at the birds, so I told her off and she hasn't been near them since This morning I had Yasmin on my finger eating millet from my hand. The boy is still skittish which is to be expected (I'm thinking of calling him skitz hehe) Pay no attention to the perches in the photo's - I've just found some gum tree branches (figured out that a tree in our back yard is a gum tree derr) so I'm about to replace them with those once I've sterilised them.
September 2, 200717 yr lucky you I believe this is Yasmin is one of the birds I helped Kaz name, she is a Violet Opaline Spangle - gorgeous
September 2, 200717 yr Author Lucky you! What beautiful birds, get Kaz to tell you what they are. Thanks Kaz told me what the violet one was but I forgot to ask about the boy!
September 2, 200717 yr As usual, blues don't translate well by photos meaning the true colours dont show up. Yasmin in reality appears a medium lavender purple. She is a violet opaline spangle and YES she was named by Elly when she was a baby. The boy SKITZ is either a sky violet, or a cobalt carrying violet and he is opaline. Both lovely birds. Yasmin could only go to a special home and I feel Shellet will offer that. Seems she has already won her over. For an aviary bird to stand on a finger for millet is a wonderful first try Edited September 2, 200717 yr by **KAZ** spelling correction
September 2, 200717 yr Oh I remember Yasmin as a chick! Congratulations!! She sure is a beauty, as is "Skitz" He is exactly like my Bobby, sky violet opaline with the violet showing through on his wings! How wonderful you have had Yasmin eating millet on your finger already, what a wonderful achievement, especially for an aviary! Although being one of Karen's beautifully bred babies you would expect that

Running around and chirping they are now hehe Here's a quick pick of the setup - not that you can see much! I've ordered some toys as well so hopefully they will be in on Monday Edited September 2, 200717 yr by shellet

September 9, 200717 yr The hen may have the clearwing gene What makes you say that Lady? All I see is spangle markings and opaline.
