hey guys i was wondering if you could help.... a while back i purchased a budgie( few months ago now)... she was fully grown then but still had bars on her head... she's since starting breeding but hasnt moulted her bars in the few months i've had her... is it possible it wasnt actually a baby at all but a bird that won't lose it's bars? as a precaution all eggs have been taken off her incase she may indeed be still a baby... but i dont think so because she's been here for a while and not lost them... any thoughts? oh and incase ur were gonna ask yes she's gone trhough a moult before :)

yeah but no real point showing it she looks exactly like a baby aside from the fact she's in breeding condition and has laid and not lost her bars over the months i've had her she's a cinnamon wing clearflight... not sure whether grey or mauve looks grey on belly but slight blue tinge to her rump which makes me say maybe mauve :P i dont have a picture of her on this area of the comp but i'll get a new picture tonight or tomorrow when i cantch her out of her nest to show you all :D p.s. her laid eggs are fertile

I wonder why you said you had taken her eggs off her in case she WAS too young ( in your first post ) . And just now you have said she is in a nest with fertile eggs ? :P

Something to consider perhaps....in the future, if you ever have a budgie and you cannot be sure of its age when you get it ( too young ) it may be better to wait the 12 months or so before you breed it so you can be sure. Any young hen can lay eggs and many do, but if too young, they often fail in the raising of chicks.

Would like to see a picture of the hen so we can help you age her, and ID her type.

Kaz its probily a heavy flecked hen & no dought 12 months old.

Do ppl think we have crystal ball, & can see there birds,If they are not going to

suplly a photo,How are we going to answer there question. I say no photo or information

no answers. :P

I'm thinking it's a Recessive Pied from the discription, Recessive seems to often do strange things to feather colours & often they don't moult out their bars.

I was thinking recessive but Macka could be right with flecking. Libby sorry but for this sort of question a picture would make things easier.

Yep you still have a young hen there, her throat spots are still those of a young bird and the iris ring isn't that strong either. You just have a hen that got the brown cere before losing her bars, it can happen.

I agree with Nerwen, it hasn’t moulted yet, even the Cinnamon bars still look immature feathering.

Libby, leaving her in a nest laying eggs as you remove them will take its toll on her as she will keep laying as you remove them indefinitely. She is too young obviously, and perhaps should be removed from an aviary with nestboxes for now ?

She is a cinnamon mauve dominant pied it seems.

Even a 3 month old will mate and lay eggs, but it doesnt mean its either right for her or good for her.

Libby, I would agree totally with Kaz here. She should be removed from any nesting environment. This is a very young budgie. :)

Feathers.

Oh by the way she looks like a Cinnamon Dominant pied. Approx 6 to 10 months old.
