okay you can say it I TOLD YOU SO

IT was all gogin well until this morning when i went to do the cleaning of the boxes and etc when i noticed blood on Angel ( the monther of the fledge ) I checked all the babies till i got to the end ( 4 boxes ) with Ozzie's new borns and 1 week old in it they are cut and were bleeding ..... Nothing drastic

I didn;t know what to do ( i should of after reading and reseaching of ages )

I removed Angel and her babies and put them in a little cage and used Kaz idea with the ice cream container as i didn't put the father in as Angel isn't in breeding condition but they were mating the other day!!!

How do I clean - fix the newborns ...... I am going to do a search on the previous topics but in the mean time can anyone tell me ... PLEASE

You will have to clean them up to see the extent of the wounds Neat. What may seem superficial may well not be and infection can set in. A little warm water with some Betadine will work.If it wasnt the dad or mother that attacked them mayeb you should put the Dad in so he can help with the babies.I told you so's dont help. Anything else you need just ask...PM me ...you can phone me if you like.Cheers karen

They are young, so should heal fast. Gently clean them as Kaz suggested but hopefully you will be right and the injuries will only be superficial. Keeping a working nest-box "hospital" clean is just not practical, but the parents and the chicks themselves should keep the wounds clean.

It's hard to say which would be better - moving Ozzie and her family to a cabinet cage, or removing all other hens from the aviary for a few weeks so as not to upset Ozzie any further. The former might be easier, and make it easier for you to keep an eye on the injured youngsters. But I am not familiar with your setup or the facilities you have/don't have available to you. Just watch Ozzie closely, as she *might* reject or neglect the injured youngsters.

Good luck and keep us posted,

KathyW.
