Posted August 28, 200717 yr I have 4 budgies in an aviary. They have all paired off together. I had 2 that where showing signs of breeding and all looked good. Then the other pair stole their nest box. ( I had 2 in there) I have moved the 2 out that stole it and put them in a cage of their own with a nest box. My concerns are Is the cage too small, they have come from an aviary to a standard bird cage ( like you wouls have inside) it looks so small and they cannot really fly with the nest box in there. How long should I leave them in there? if they are showing no signs of breeding. How do I know if they are happy? They are chirping away and keep standing on each others tails, ( not sure if they are trying to get close as they are scared or for another reason( if you know what I mean!!(Laughing out loud)) and jumping around. If they are inside the house and are used to being outside will they get scared of the noises. Will seperating them from the others disturb what breeding they have begun. any advice would be good. Thanks :dbb1:
August 28, 200717 yr Hi Kel, can you post a picture of the cage setup. It sounds like it may be too small, especially if you have 2 nestboxes in there. How old are the budgies? Feathers.

Aviaru I moved them out of ( left 1 pair in there) http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff171/k...23/IMG_3249.jpg Cage with nest box in http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff171/k.../IMG_3245-1.jpg Pair in Avairy http://i240.photobucket.com/albums/ff171/k...23/IMG_3252.jpg I will see if that works ( they maybe on twice sorry) Edited August 29, 200717 yr by Nerwen removed double pictures
August 29, 200717 yr Your photos worked well. The aviary looks great. You cage with a nestbox will never work for a breeding pair...there is no room. There isnt room for them to fly about, and certainly no room for a family. You will have to re think that one. A much bigger cage will be needed with the nestbox attached to the outside so you can get at it to check for eggs and babies. Using that cage is kind of like asking you to raise a family in a toilet cubicle ....sizewise that is. Perhaps you could temporarily divide the aviary for each set of breeding pairs ?
