August 26, 200717 yr hey everyone, havent't been on here for a while but yesterday i saw my two budgies mating and this morning there was a egg in the box!!! what are the chances of it being fertile????? Pretty good chance it is fertile. But yesterdays mating isnt why there is an egg in the box today. It takes a little longer to have the first eggs from matings. So they have been "budgie bonking" long before you saw them at it. Good luck
August 26, 200717 yr Author thanks, umm before the egg was layed today there has been two more eggs laid like 2 and 4 days before that one was laid and the mum just cracked them open and threw them out is there a chance she knew that they weren't fertile because i looked inside them and there was just yoke?

No, she didnt throw them out as she knew they were infertile. As they would have been newish eggs she wouldnt have known if they were fertile or not. You would just see yolk if they are newish eggs too, nothing else. Often hens that are too young destroy their own eggs. How old is the hen ? Another reason for destroyed eggs can be, damaging them with claws or by too many disturbances to the nestbox ( too much looking into it by budgie owners ) ...once eggs are damamged they get tossed or eaten.

Also, if hens arent up to raising a clutch they can kind of sabotage chicks and eggs. They put themselves first. Maybe give her a break for awhile.
