I've Set Up My Cage

Featured Replies

I've been out all day finding a good cage ready for my new arrivals. This is what I ended up with...

Does anyone have any suggestions for improvement? I will be replacing the dowel perches with branches ASAP & I am trialling the feeder and water dispenser to see how they go at this stage.

Cage will eventually be going outside (once the fiance is done with rebuilding & painting his car!) under the patio, so I thought the best place for it would be in front of a window for now.

I will also be upgrading eventually as well, this is just to start me off.

Thanks :P

That's the same cage i have (i've got two, one for budgies, one for tiels). I would replace the dowels with perches running front to back rather than side to side. This will allow your budgies to fly across the cage. :hap: Some more toys would probably be appreciated to. :P Those are the only things i can think of.

Thanks Bea for the idea's!

I was thinking about changing the perches to side ones so I will definately do that

And will find more toys for them hehe. I ran out of time today, always the way.

that is my exact cage too I love it.

I have different type of perches such as natural ones from our maple tree that I cut long enough and then layed them inside and they go longwise so he can fly back and forth. I also have a rope one and a calcium perch. I make the perches at different levels so but they are all located on the sides from longwise to shortwise so Merlin can fly from perch to perch. He loves that.

He also has a swing in the front corner and a another high perch that is short up in the top corner in the front where he can go up on if he choses.

I hang the toys from the different perches but because the cage is big don't overload with toys. Giving your birds 4 toys and rotating is good. They usually become attached to a certain toy so rotating every couple weeks and changing your perches around every couple months is a great idea. I just do it when I do a whole cage clean.

I also left the stand in there and put his food on there instead of in the sides (that is just me though). He loves to walk on it and play with his ball.

Another idea is to form a route from the bottom of the cage to the top. In my cages (cause Harley can not fly) I always run stuff and down the cage so that he cage climb around the cage without having to cage crawl (crawling using the bars)
