ummm my budgie spends ALL day scratching himself all over, and when i say all day i mean all day he'll be flying or walking around and stops every few minutes to scratch his whole body it takes him about 3 minutes to stop it and a little while later will start all over again, it doesnt only happen when he's out of his cage he'll do the same thing while in it...what's wrong with him?

okay just noticed something, he's just been standing on a dark rug while scratching and i've noticed little white flakes which relly lloks like dandruff....i'm confused now...can budgies have dandruff? gosh i think he's weird

How often do you let him have a bath? budgies need to bath to clean their feathers regularly from all the "muck" thats left after a molt, or a preening.

 

It could also be bird lice that he's got. This would cause him to scratch lots as much as humans do when they get lice.

 

My advice, take him to the vet and get him checked out. Wouldnt want to infect any other birds in your house, or even yourself! Many bird diseases are contageous to humans as well

If it's recent and he's molting, I'd say he's just itchy. Depending upon the temperature there, if you have the heat on it could be drying his skin. If he's been doing it for months on the other hand, I'd take him to the vet.

I just took him to the vet like 3 days ago didnt go because of this though cause it started 2 days ago, but anyways she told me he was fine and unless he developed something that afternoon i dont know what could it be...maybe a bath is a good idea, how should i give it to him though?

if you have one of those garden sprays use that with tepid water but do it first thing on a morning so he has plenty time to dry

yeah it's probably best to spray him, i have a bird bath but my bird just walks around in it and hops out again...so it actually does nothing to clean him.

Use a normal Saucer or side plate and fill it with luke-warm water.. to the level of the top of his feet. if he doesnt want to get in, put ur fingers in and splash about.. he'll get the idea. If that doesnt work, put pieces of lettuce in the water, so he can pick them out.. or his favourite fruit.. or even his favourite toy. something to get him to go into the water.

 

My budgie likes it when I put pieces of lettuce in the water and splash my fingers in the saucer....then he seems to imitate what I'm doing, while also retreiving the little pieces of lettuce.

 

OR.. yes.... spray bottles work too if you havent got time to "play" in the water with your baby :bluebudgie:

I tried the "splashing method" but he just looked at me like "you're kinda weird" and flapped away so i'll try the garden spray. oh and he isn'e itching that much anymore so yayy thank you!

You could try some washed grass in the water too.
