A friend of mine brought her son a budgie early summer, and now...her son has lost interest. I have took it upon my self to find him a new home, which i have done. However the last time i went to see it it had scaly face. Im going to pick it up in a couple of weeks to transport it to its new home. I've brought Johnsons Scaly Lotion to treat it whilst im down there. Does anyone know if its any good? I have in the past brought over the counter products to treat my small furries but they never seem to as good or as effective as prescription medicines.

Johnsons Scaly Lotion will treat it but will take a few applications the best one i have heard is ivomectin with only needs to be used onced dont forget to wash the cage and perchs and food and water pots

We give our guinea pigs ivomectin when they get mites, do you give it to a budgie the same way you would give to a G-Pig which is down the mouth, or do you put it on there beak and feet?

Normally something like that will be applied to the back of their neck.

 

You need to hold the bird and ruffle the feathers on the back of the neck until you see the skin and then apply the drop there. Pogi and Ganda had their re-applied after two weeks just to be safe.

its been many years since i have had scaly face in my birds and ivomectin wasnt used then but i will ask and try and find out

i've read somewhere that appling vaseline teice daily for a week can help get rid as well coz it suffercates the mites, can also be on the feet as well.

there are a few different treatments for scaly face but the good thing with ivomectin is it is given only once
