Eggs Found On Aviary Floor...parents Unknown

Featured Replies

Once before, I had a topic about my aviary birds being so desperate to breed that I was finding eggs on the aviary floor each day. I collected some eggs each day and I put some of these under some hens that were breeding, just in case. Well some were addled as you would expect, being laid from a perch. But there were two chicks that resulted from two of the eggs....PARENTS UNKNOWN, and most likely two different sets of parents.

Here is CHICK #1 ( a tiny little hen I call PINTPOT ) not fully feathered yet

They are pretty, it's a shame they will never know who is their mum and dad :hap: :fear . It's cool you could save them

How lucky is that Kaz....sometimes it's hard enough to get eggs to hatch without just dropping them on the floor....

This chick I have named VELCRO ( after the tape ) as he stick to me whenever I pick him up. Very hard to put down as its all legs gripping me every which way :fear

Its possible his mother was a skyblue cinnamon hen ?

it's possible, he looks cobalt to me so one of his parents could have been sky blue.

As Nerwen said the ones looks big did they some out of your show bird aviary.

The eggs came from the mixed aviary...a few show birds with mostly pet birds. But there was a cinnamon skyblue hen that possibly could have been egglaying. Father unknown Here she is aprilbudgies418.jpgAUGUST07287.jpg

:D Eye sight is better than photos. I can see some feathers sky blue just under the mask, just the rest look darker to me.

I don't think you will ever know for sure, mark it down as possible beside him then in a years time if he throws a cinnamon chick you can look it up.

could very well be the head structure is very similar :D

Kaz, did you put rings on them.Just in case they turn out to be ,show quality.

Good one Kaz, I hate to see eggs wasted; you never know what can come of them. Like others have said could be show birds. Their feathers have a sort of scruffy look about them, they could have came from the floor…(Laughing out loud)…

Your better than me, I’m sure you recorded what you did, I found a spare egg & put it under one pair, then completely forgot about it. Then I got this Cinnamon Grey Opaline from this pair & I thought that’s strange they had had a couple of batches & never had an Opaline before. Then the other day I recalled what I had done & thought I think that’s where I put that egg & it’s quite a nice looking bird, I know it’s mother who was an Opaline, but like yours was in the aviary & plenty of cocks so could have been anyone.
