I Left Without Them

Ever seen a bird and thought "wow, i want to give that little one a home"?

Well, I did today. I was out and dropped into this pet shop. Now, I look in most pet shops but i would never buy from most. This one is different though. they have some great birds, and they only ever stock a few. I have actually bought 5 from there before, and they are all great. That is where I bought Romeo, Juliet, Angel, Sebby and Ozzy.

Anyway, today i was there and they had 2 yellow faced dom pieds - they were just about all white, with the yellow faces, a few blacks spots and little blue on the rump, a yellow/green dom pied, and there was this little violet dom pied with the clearflights. He was so cute. he was obviously too little to be out of the nest, in my opinion. He could not perch properly, so he was sitting on the floor. he was not sick, not fluffed so young. You could tell by his stripes on his forehead. he is going to be a big bird as well.

Anyway, I might go back tomorrow. If he is still there, he will come home with me. We will see.

Damn me and my good heart.

 He may need some special attention for awhile....so what's his name ? :budgiedance:

No name until i see if he is there tomorrow.

As for special attention, he will get inside lodging with a lamp for warmth, wood shavings to sleep on, and a diet of seed, veges and millet to allow him to grow up big and strong.

But that all depends on him being there tomorrow.

If you are meant to have him...he will be there ...looking forward to pictures :budgiedance:

Yes Dave I know that feeling  No doubt then will love their place and their new feathered family :budgiedance:

yeah, l know what it is like when a special budgie just pulls at your heart strings. that is how l got Butter& Popcorn. l saw them and went home without them then they just wouldn't get out of my head, so 30 minutes later l was back in the store purchasing them :D

yes I have done that plenty of times, I see a bird I like, then go away & think later I should buy that bird & when I go back if it's still there home it comes with me. I have often done that for a couple of weeks & it's still been there so as Kaz said it must be meant to be.

I have seen one little baby that I cried about when I left the store cause I couldn't take him home, he was so tiny and looked scared and I wanted to wrap him up but didn't have the capacity for new budgies at the time....

Once the aviary is finished I won't walk away! :hap:

Well, I went back today and I came home with 3 pieds, but not the little one. i was talking with one of the people who work there, and she was very well informed. She told me that this little one was going to be a runner - she bough it up not me. he would not survive in my aviary - how would he get around? And so I did not get him. When i initially said i wanted him, one girl turned to the other and said "ha ha" I asked what that was about, and she said that she was going to take the little one home and look after him if no one bought him today. he requires extra attention I cannot give, so I let him go.

I will post some new pics soon, and everyone can help me out with the classification. I say I have one cock and 2 hens. the cock is a yellow and green pied, and the hens are white, with a llittle bit of a blue rump, and patches of black all over them. they are both yellow faced though. they both bite har, so I say female - (Laughing out loud).

Pics soon

Congrats on your find. The runner probably has feather disease that is debateable if it is contagious or not so keep an eye out on your new birds. You made a good decision.

Lucky you didn't bring home the runner Dave, it's bad enough when you get them yourself, without bringing the problem home, as it can spread.

I don't have any runners but every now and again I get a couple that can't fly for a while and I find it totally annoying. :) They must hurt their wings or something any way after a while they are backing flying.

So it is a good thing you didn't bring it home. :hap:

In my experience runner have other health issues apart from feather growth, and often their lives are NOT as long or fruitful. Looking forward to pictures of the "new guys" :)

What's a runner??

A runner is a bird suffering from what is called French Moult…[Polyoma virus] the birds loose their tail & flight feathers, some can recover & grow back their feathers, others seem to get so much damage that they never grow back & never can fly, therefore the name “Runners”. According to the experts some become immune as they get older, others continue to carry it & can spread it to others, mostly the damage occurs when the birds are young in the nest, they loose their feathers just before leaving the nest or soon after. Apparently it can cause more problems than this, it can even cause the death of some birds & eggs to not hatch.

I like 'Macaroni and Cheese' or you could name one Maca and the other Roni :D

They look good. Are in interested in recessive pieds?

Nice looking Birds. Salt and Pepper I think work well.

They don`t look to have french moult,to me. :D

They are gorgeous and I love Nerwen's suggest Mac and then Roni that is just too cute :D

;) Very pretty birds, glad you got them!!! ALL the names are GREAT but I shall add Pretzel and Peanut to the floor! :D
