Posted August 19, 200717 yr Mars and Crystal paired up in the aviary just before I had to move the birds out of there for our major renovations. So, I put them in a breeder cabinet that was spare. They went straight to nest and I rarely see them out of it. So far we have 3 eggs. Here is Mars Mars is from a creamino mother and a YF2 dominant pied cobalt father and Crystal ( from Goliath skyblue opaline spangle and Jade GF violet normal ) If any of you genetics experts would like to work out the possibilities that would be cool Edited September 17, 200717 yr by KAZ
August 19, 200717 yr Mars and Crystal both have great taste in a partner. Mars is a spangle too right? It's a touch hard to tell in those shots. If he is: Spangles YF spangles Normals YF Normals Dominant pied YF dominant pied Dominant pied spangles YF dominant pied spangles DF spangles (can hide the pied gene) DF YF spangles (can hide the pied gene) Ino daughters either YF or not Sons will be split opaline If she is a sky violet possible violets as well (possible in all mutations listed) If he isn't a spangle then you will not get the Double Factor spangles.

But as his mother was a creamino she could have been hiding that couldn't she ? He does appear to be a spangle dom pied. But I cannot be sure. Here's another picture of him.....
August 19, 200717 yr He does look like it to me (kinda like Ozzie in that last shot ) Yes the mum could have been one which was masked by the ino gene. ******************** Umm Kaz have you got the parents right for Mars??I hunted out old posts and found this: MARS's parents Pluto and Saturn. Posted Oct 9 2006 here no Creamino mother if this is right. Plus Saturn is a spangle. Edited August 19, 200717 yr by Nerwen

You are so right Nerwen...I must have been having a Grandma brain moment I was thinking of another pair in which Pluto's brother was paired to a creamino hen. Pluto had 3 brothers and they all looked nearly the same. They are also half brothers to Bubblegum.
August 19, 200717 yr Grandma brain moment Well I can understand when you have lookalikes Well you will get everything but the Ino daughters.
August 19, 200717 yr You pet breeders, how could you ever work it out.The answer is they are coloured budgies,They have more crosses in them, then you would see on a railway crossing. :budgiedance: :hap:

August 19, 200717 yr Thanks Kazza! :ausb: I have been pestering her for ages to put these two together (Laughing out loud). Mars is my FAVOURITE bird Kazza has, and when we were chatting we thought Crystal would make a stunning wife, and the babies would be out of this world! :wine I even named one of MY clutches after that family (I had Mars, Pluto, and Saturn)... I honestly cannot wait kazza, they are just stunning! Im hoping for a lot of yfb dominant spangle pieds AKA Mars junoirs (Laughing out loud). Are there any updates? *CANT WAIT for babies to come!!! * Nathan Edited August 19, 200717 yr by Nathan.
August 19, 200717 yr I agree with Nerwen about what you will get, should be some nice colours. I have bred some YF2 Spangles this year, they are a nice Mutation in my opinion. On a personal opinion note, I’m going to try & keep the Pied mutation out of my Spangles, as I love the wings on Spangles & it seems a pity to loose it under Pied. What do others think?

What do others think? The thing I have noticed Norm, with blending spangle with dominant pieds is...the size comes up. I would say due to the pied factor. They come out a decent size bird with striking markings. Couldnt show one as it would have "faults" but they are nice :hap: Edited August 20, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
August 28, 200717 yr Kaz, I missed this post before. Both of the birds are ones that I love. I really look forward to seeing the results of this pairing. Feathers.
