Is it allright to have budgies and quails in the same aivary? Photos of this would be appreciated.

You can have quail with budgies, they say they keep the floor clean, but I didn't think so. But I did for a while but they were little pest, they would soundly move at night and frighten my budgies so now Greg has them in his Canary flight.

I've had quails in aviaries with budgies for years. Only real problem was with baby quails walking right through the bird mesh! They need 6mm mouse-mesh, wire flyscreen or solid panels around the bottom of the cage to keep them contained.

As long as the quails have some "cover", eg grass, leafy tree branches on the floor, somewhere to hide, they feel secure and are not so flighty. If there's nothing for them to hide under they can be easily startled, which in turn can startle the budgies, especially at night.

They do reduce the mess on the floor by eating any seed that has fallen, but they don't eat husks so as vacuum cleaners they aren't so good ... They are quite insectivorous and you will never have problems with slaters, small spiders, beetles or other sundry bugs down at floor level. They will even try those foul weavil moths that get into bird seed (although I believe they are toxic so I wouldn't encourage it).

Hi i use to keep quails with my budgies . Mainly as an avairy collection , to eat any seed that was wasted and for their many different colours. Now im a show budgie breeder and i dont keep the quails anymore , but there was one thing i found with keeping quails , the male will call out during the night and this would attract cats to the avairy and they would frighten the birds .

yes i have quails in my avairy and they have hollow logs hop in and there is a large tree branch on the floor so they can be under. i keep them to help keep the wasted seed down to a minimum and as i have a dirt floor with bark i have no troubles with bugs.

Gee after saying yesterday that I use to nave quail and now they are in Gregs Canary flight, well last night he said he put a hen quail in with my cock birds, Boy I said, just finish telling use guy I use have them but not any more and boy now I do. I told him I didn't want it in there but I have no choice because the other quail were attacking it.

Gregs Canary flight is yukky compared to my nice clean budgie flights. The canarys poo eveywhere, I told him he needs to keep the walls cleaner, so I reckon the little quail might be deseases, He laughed at me.

Not fair.

in my avairy i have 1 male and 3 hens and now i have 1 of the hens in my nursery cage with 4 youngsters (due to 3 day old chicks walking outside the front of the avairy) and i now have a second hen on nest and the third hen has started to leave eggs scattered in a corner.
