Posted August 14, 200717 yr hi this is one of my babies i was wondering if you could tell me what kind it looks like it'll be... we initially thought that it would be a normal green but it's starting to feather up and has alot of yellow in it's wings and lack of black compared to my other normal greens that had alot of black? any thoughts on what it might be would be appreciated thanks:)
August 14, 200717 yr Hi Libby, what are the parents, are they both normal green, and is one or both parents split for cinnamon. The baby could be grey green and it looks like it could be cinnamon. Did the baby have red eyes for a while when it hatched and now have gone black. Edited August 14, 200717 yr by splat
August 14, 200717 yr nopes no pink eyes had black since word go... the parents are a light green opaline and a normal light green i dont know about splits but...
August 14, 200717 yr Spangle...and that means one of the parents must be...have you photos of the parents ?
August 14, 200717 yr I thought spangle, but I thought that was me, wasn't game enough to say it. I was thinking opaline, :ausb: I think it's time I got off this computer and did some housework. GOING BRAIN DEAD HERE.
August 14, 200717 yr If that baby is a spangle...and it IS...then the parent has to be a spangle as spangle is a dominant gene.
August 14, 200717 yr yeah it looks to be spangle but no possible spangle fathers:s could another female prehaps have layed an egg in this nest?
August 14, 200717 yr yeah it looks to be spangle but no possible spangle fathers:s could another female prehaps have layed an egg in this nest? I doubt it as any hen preparing to lay eggs in a nest "cleans out" the nest. Any eggs in there she would have thrown out. Is it possible the hen mated with one of your spangle boys before you took them out of the aviary ? Bearing in mind it can take quite some days for the first egg to show up ?
August 14, 200717 yr yeah might have happened that way but just really really odd:S ah wells all good a baby's a baby just gotta decide whether or not to keep the little fella now seeing as if it's the other twos baby that makes 3 birds of the same colour in the same blood line:P
August 14, 200717 yr Might just be me but the yellow doesn't look bright enough for the baby to be green either, looks like a yf2 spangle...
August 16, 200717 yr sorry I'm not seeing the cinnamon, also hello cheeta :ausb: Hi Nerwen. It's been awhile. :dbb1:, but I've been busy... will get some new pics up soon since I've got some downtime coming up soon. May be it's just my monitor, but it looks cinnamon here... though on closer inspection, it looks more dark brown possible black but the light is making it darkbrown from a certain angles.. Wouldn't that still have bright yellow wings? Bea has a point, but may be it is because it is a cinnamon?!?! hehe, which has diluted the colour?? even grey green that I've seen has brighter yellow than that one. Just a thought.. hehehe
August 16, 200717 yr Well Libby it is a spangle for sure, :ausb: I evevn got Greg on the site the other night and he won't normally go near a computer :dbb1: but I begged him any way said spangle. We need more pics to see if it's cinn or not, or grey green.
August 16, 200717 yr Bea you might be right. I stated Green before since I was told the parents where both green. Sometimes a grey-green can have paler wings than a normal green. Libby any chance of getting some shots of the spangles you own? It might help.
August 16, 200717 yr of course:) the two spangle males i own are actually father and son and the father is definatly split for cinnamon as he has produced a cinnamon winged hen before but she wasnt spangle:) the father is lgiht green spangle the son dark green spangle:) not sure if the son is split for cinnamon he's only in his first mating season currently and his offspring are un feathered yet (BJ, son) (emerald, father of BJ) this is the baby on the left next to a normal sky blue chick and the sky blues sister lutino... he's not related to either but was fostered out with them
