Posted August 12, 200718 yr okay I have my Skyblue Dilute Spangle male from this spring that I bred, I kept him and sold all my normal budgies except Blue. So I found Blue a mate I'm not sure what she is I know a Cinnamon Violet for sure but the wing pattern Im mixed up with. I am looking into getting a Cinnamon Violet Normal for him but what would I get. The chicks father was a Skyblue Dominant Pied, her mother was a Violet of some sort...again some kind of wing pattern. I think Grey Wing. Is there somewhere where I could learn my wing patterns? My question is how does the violet gene work? Here is my cock bird a (Skyblue Dilute Spangle) that I am going to put with a Violet Cinnamon Normal. I know my males will be split to Cinnamon & I would get some Spangles. All of my babies would be blue but how would the violet gene work? I resized it but you can barely see him now...
August 12, 200718 yr The violet gene is carried on either the light factor or the dark factor. Here is a thread about the Violet Gene
August 13, 200718 yr Isn't it carried on the dark factor having 2 dark factors. You breed a Violet to a sky and you get cobalts and violets. Not sure about the sky though as the violet would give a dark factor all the time having 2. Your male does not look like a spangle joey.. Have you got a closer shot of him?
August 13, 200718 yr Yes If the bird has two dark factors then the violet for that bird is carried on the dark factor gene.
August 13, 200718 yr Author Well I'll give you the link...I was told he was a Spangle because when he was a chick his tailfeather in the middle was pure white. I have doubted that he was a spangle myself but I just told myself "well his tailfeather in the middle was white so he was a spangle". Here are some links: http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z11/cho.../DSC01537-1.jpg http://i195.photobucket.com/albums/z11/cho...07/DSC01538.jpg I know he is a Dilute Skyblue for sure but I hope he is spangle... I sold his parents and his brothers and sisters because I thought he was a spangle. I was planning on making yellowface type 2 spangle opalines. With his chicks.

He's not a spangle Joey...he may well be a greywing, but he is definitely not a spangle
August 13, 200718 yr Author Are you 100% positively sure? Because he had two pure white tail feathers when he was a chick...oh well guess I will have to go and get a spangle than. Back with the normal budgies....(Laughing out loud) (3) pairs wouldn't hurt

Back with the normal budgies....lol (3) pairs wouldn't hurtIn the wings of a spangle the colour edges the wing feathers like a pencil line. In your budgie the colour ( grey ) is the main part of the feather and the edge is white. If it were a spangle the wings would be white with a black edging. Like this
August 13, 200718 yr can i add he's not old enought to be bred also. okay I have my Skyblue Dilute Spangle male from this spring that I bred
August 14, 200718 yr Author can i add he's not old enought to be bred also.okay I have my Skyblue Dilute Spangle male from this spring that I bred I already know that the hen I am getting for him is just a few weeks old right now, not weaned yet. I am going to wait until next August to breed the two and I already found a Spangle, I sold him 2 years ago to a friend and he has scaley face now, really bad so I am going to get him some treatment and breed him. I miss him so much. He is a Yellow Faced Type 2 Skyblue Spangle Oplaine split to Ino
August 14, 200718 yr The violet gene is carried on the dark factor genes. You will need to test breed to be sure of what gene it is on. You may need to test breed a couple of times to get the results. Thanks for the link Nerwen.. Brings back memories You have a grey wing skyblue cock. In the second poicture he is with an opaline skyblue cock.

So would she be split? She is a Cinnamon Violet Normal.
August 14, 200718 yr Yes she would be split. Greywing is a recessive gene. A bird is either greywing, clearwing or dilute not a mix of 2 or 3 of them.
