I have three budgies, two females and one male. I am trying to decide which female I should pair up with the male. So could you all tell me what I might get with each pair. thanks. here are their pictures :

olive.jpg olive

lilac.jpg lilac. although she does look blue in this picture she is actually purple. my camera just messed up her color. i have been told before that she is an opaline

birds047.jpg cloud. her wings are mostly white with some gray

olive x lilac = ?

olive x cloud = ?

thanks ;)

Olive and Liliac

All babies will be green unless your Olive is split to blue and then you will have a 50% chance of blues/greens.

Liliac if she is a violet, if she is a single factor 1/2 the babies would carry the violet gene and if she is a double factor violet 100% of the babies would carry the violet gene. That means if all the babies are green yes they can carry the violet gene.

Both birds look opaline which means you would have 100% opaline babies

Liliac is a clearflight dominant pied so 1/2 the babies would be clearflights and the 1/2 normals.

Of course there are always surprised is the dad is carrying any other sex-linked genes such as ino or cinnamon and any recessive genes that both birds carry.

olive x cloud

All the babies will be green unless Olive is split to blue

All babies will be normals which mean look like Olive BUT if Olive is split for recessive pied then you have a 50% chance of visual recessive pied and the others will be split for the recessive pied gene.

Any opaline babies you get will be hens because they will get this gene from their dad.

You said Clouds wings are grey so she could be a greywing and in that case if Olive is carrying the greywing gene you would have a chance of greywings also.

If I missed anything someone will come in and correct...these are just ratios remember there can always be surprises.

Liliac is a clearflight dominant pied so 1/2 the babies would be clearflights and the 1/2 normals.

She is a Dominant Pied (Australian Dominant Pied if it help) not a Clearflight.

If it was me I would put Olive and Liliac together.

olive x lilac =

Green Opalines /blue

Violet green opalines /blue

Green Dominant pied opalines /blue

Violet Green dominant pied opalines /blue

olive x cloud =

Green Normal sons / recessive pied / blue

Green Opaline daughters/ recessive pied / blue

Thanks so much. I have decided to put Olive and Lilac together. I can't wait to see what the babies will look like.
