Posted August 12, 200717 yr hi everyone, sadly, this morning Sugar died. He wasn't feeling very well for the few days and spending most his time on the bottom of the cage. He also had quite alot of poo on his vent and seemed to be struggling with breathing. We think it might be pneumonia :budgiedance: :ausb:
August 12, 200717 yr Very sorry to hear about him. I would advise watching your other birds closely and possibly ringing the vet so you can ensure this illness was not passed out and you loose your whole flock.
August 12, 200717 yr I'm so sorry to hear that you lost Sugar. And yes, be sure to keep a close eye on all your other birds so you don't lose more! Fly free Sugar!
August 12, 200717 yr Really sorry hear about little sugar, but I agree with the others keep an eye on them as I am having a similar problem at the moment. :angel1:

He also had quite alot of poo on his vent and seemed to be struggling with breathing. We think it might be pneumonia Toffeefluff, anytime a budgie has a pooey bottom it needs urgent care. It needs to be cleaned up so it can still pass faeces ( if clagged up it wont be able to poop and will get sicker ). You need to clean it up to see what colour and type the droppings are to be able to seek care and treatment. Any bird on the bottom of a cage with a pooey bottom for more than a day needs a vet to take a look at it. At the very least it would benefit from a bottom clean, and time in a warm cage ( hospital cage or with a warm lamp beside the cage it is in ). Sick birds don't eat or drink...they sometimes pretend they are, but often do not. A bird can last quite a while without drinking but not too long without eating. I am sorry you have lost this budgie. Budgies go downhil fast when ill and its up to US to look for the signs and get things moving on their recovery process as soon as possible. Any birds I see looking "fluffy" in my aviary go immediately into the warm hospital cage and are assessed for treatment or vet care. Checking birds bottoms are a normal part of my daily activities in the aviary. Edited August 13, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
