Posted August 12, 200718 yr In a few months two of my babies are going to be old enough to mate, and we are going to buy them a nesting box and everything else. When they have their babies, should I hand feed em? Cus I want them to be familiar with the hand, but I ahve heard that handfeeding birds doesn't offer the nutrience that the actual momma bird does. So? What should I do?
August 12, 200718 yr it is probley best if you let the parents feed the baby budgie because there is a lot of risks If you are concerned about your baby budgie not being as tame if you don't hand-feed you can handle the baby budgie at about 3 weeks for about 15-20 mins (Baby budgies who are handled daily out of the nest turn out as tame as hand-fed budgies) When the feathers start to develop, you can start to gently rub their cheeks, jaw, head and neck feathers to get them used to the petting. They should begin to perch at about 5 weeks, during which time you can start doing the step-up training. :budgiedance:
