First Eggs

Featured Replies

It's been a while since I posted. So... the story so far.... Tango and Mango were together but mainly just tolerated each other. So, in the interest of peace and harmony, I exchanged Tango for Lucky. Mango was in love, but it's been hard to tell with Lucky. She wasn't too sure of him at first since she'd been an only budgie for quite a while. He's always flirting with her.

So, for the news.... Two days ago I discovered that Lucky laid an egg. Today there's egg #2. I totally forgot to mark the eggs so I could keep an eye on if things take too long. Oh well, guess I'll try to remember to mark them if this ever happens again.

If these eggs are fertile, and the parent birds take good care of them, it'll be a surprise as to what colours we'll get as we don't have a full history of Lucky. As far as I can tell, she's a Green Opaline Clearbody. Mango is an opaline violet sky spangle (we think).

Obviously I don't know the full history of these birds, but as a generality, what sort of babies could I expect if things go well? I'm not counting on any budgie babies yet as I have no idea if these are even fertile.

If your idea to marking eggs is just to know how long to hatching, I put stickers on my nestboxes. Yellow stickers for however many eggs in there so I can tell at a glance. I date the stickers. As each chick hatches I replace the stickers with a chick sticker. In between I candle the eggs and remove the duds.

Good luck, I hope they are fertile and you cute little bubbies :)

Can you post a picture of the parents of the front and back of them in the mutations and then as for the outcomes that would be better. Per the picture she Lucky doesn't look like a clearbody in the siggy so a better pics would help alot.

Congrats.

I'll dig up some pics of the parents. Lucky is actually not in my sig. That's Tango.

Egg number 3 arrived yesterday or last night sometime as it was there when I checked around 9:30. So, things are looking good. She's sitting well, except for when I go in the birdroom. :dbb1:

Egg #4 was in the nest box when I checked this morning. I'm using this thread to keep track of things as well. Makes things easier.

Egg 5 was in the nest box yesterday.

Does anyone have any idea of possible outcomes of the 2 parent birds in question?

Female - Green Opaline Clearbody.

Male - opaline violet sky spangle

Female - Green Opaline Clearbody.

Male - opaline violet sky spangle

100% opalines

if the female is split for blue then you have a 50% chance of blues, 50% chance of greens

Clearbody is a sex-linked gene so the boys will be split for clearbody the only way to get visual clearbody's is if the male is split for clearbody too.

The violet is a factor so can be in both blue and green series birds so if you have a SF Violet 50% chance of them carrying the VF gene, if the male is a DF Violet then you will have 100% of the babies will carry the violet gene and it will be single factor

Others may give you more of the ratios to the combo but that is what you can expect with colors and mutations.

Congrats! :D

Agree with Elly but she forgot the spangle :D you have 50% change of spangle young.

snaps my fingers I thought I got all those mutations going to fast (Laughing out loud) thank you Nerwern

25% opline voilet green spangle.

25% opline green spangle.

25%opline green spangle.

25% opline green.

The cocks will be split for clearbody.

Thank you all for responding with the possibilities.

I'm not counting my chicks before they hatch (if they even do). I haven't candled any of the eggs. I don't want to disturb Lucky too much in case she decides me poking about in her nest box was too much to deal with. So.... I'll keep peeking every day and hopefully after another week or so, we'll know if any are good.

:ausb: Lovely birds, as I recall, most of them came from Nathan, please correct me if I am wrong. :dbb1:

Yeah... 4 of the 6 budgies I now have actually came from Nathan. My original one... Tango. Then the other 3 - Ariel, Chico, and Oscar. We had by then gotten Tango a buddy, called of course, Mango. After that we were given a budgie - Lucky.

I need to figure out a way to get some good pics of them. ;)

Today's the day I start finding out whether or not Lucky's eggs were fertile. Not really expecting much, but am crossing my fingers.

Well, I know they were fertile. Got to wondering yesterday when I didn't see anything. But I did a quick check before work and this is what I saw.

Sorry about the quality. This was hurry up and take a couple of shots and download them before leaving for work in less than 5 minutes.

It doesn't appear to have been fed yet. So, I guess the next thing is seeing if she'll feed the baby.

Good luck, sometimes it takes a little while for the first feed.

I checked late this afternoon and it appears that she's at least fed it a little. I think I hear little begging sounds sometimes too, unless that's Lucky talking to the chick....

They make such a cute bugging sound when just hatched. As long as you see a small touch of yellow in the crop all is good. They don't get the big swollen crop as seen in some pictures until older.
