Posted August 8, 200717 yr Does anyone have any idea's? I have a lutino hen with 6 eggs she does'nt seem to be sitting on her eggs a great deal of the time during the day,Yet she stays in her box during the night. The nest boxes are in the aviary, I have never bred budgies in an aviary before I used to only breed in seperate cages selectively.
August 8, 200717 yr I wouldn't worry to much Stuart, my hens seem to go in and out all day but they still hatch. Have you got other hens in there that can fight over the nest? :hap: But if she is sitting on them at night she must be sitting in the day too.
August 8, 200717 yr my birds have a habit of popping in and out all day long too but sit at night also and i've had 3 babies hatch so far.... only problem i find is when they're scared off the nest at night... that's when i get bad results with the babies dying in the shell...
August 8, 200717 yr Author Thanks splat, and yes I do have other hens in there but they dont seem to bother the lutino.Allthough I do have an opaline that has 2 eggs and a little green hen does try to get in her box I actually caught her in the box yesterday, but the opaline seems to be okay, mind you if she gets within striking distance of the green well!!!!!!. I will keep you posted the first egg is due to hatch on thursday but im allowing to sat
August 8, 200717 yr The little green hen should be removed. Further down the track she may enter the nestbox and kill any babies to clear the nestbox out for her own use. Read this article http://forums.budgiebreeders.asn.au/faqs/i...lony%20breeding
