Posted August 7, 200717 yr I've made a drawing of how I would like the aviary to be. Do you think it's good? I will be very happy for any comments, advise, help, ... I hope you can see it and read the writing - I don't have any good program at work and I'm not allowed to install any, so it's not that good. I also need advise on how to heat it in winter. We planned to put some heating in the storage area - what heating do you use? If you use any Thanks a lot
August 7, 200717 yr Author Looks great Zebra. Thanks I'm just thinking about it - I will always have to go to the budgies throught the cockatiel's aviary. But I guess it's okay. I can't really do it other way Do you heat your aviaries in winter Kaz? I don't know if you get cold weather in Australia. Here it could be about -20C degrees in winter sometimes.
August 7, 200717 yr I currently do not use heating but I, also, am about to rebuild my aviaries and birdroom. We get cold nights here but usually no colder than 4 degrees celcius or so.
August 7, 200717 yr Author I currently do not use heating but I, also, am about to rebuild my aviaries and birdroom. We get cold nights here but usually no colder than 4 degrees celcius or so. okay, thanks. I will see what we can do. We were thinking about installing "normal' house electric heating. I hope we can do that.
August 7, 200717 yr Looks good Zebra, but you will need to wait for others in other countries like yours for advice on heating, as in Australia we don’t really need heating. Budgies in the wild live in arid areas; which sometimes get quite cold at night, but only something like –5c & then hot during the days, so they can survive a wide range of temperatures. I would think that you wouldn’t need to heat any higher than 20c at any time. The thing you would have to think about with any artificial heat is what it would do to humidity. In your situation I would think breeding only in your summer would be best.
August 8, 200717 yr Author Thank you all I forgot all about the humidity, maybe if I use the electric heating, then I should also use humidifier. I got one from my grandad . I don't want to breed in winter. I've heard some people in czech don't heat budgie rooms in winter. But I don't want them to be cold. I've read that if the temperature doesn't go under about +5C degree, they should be fine We just need to figure out how to conect the heating to the budgie house. We don't even have heating in the house yet - lots to do till winter. Edited August 8, 200717 yr by Zebra
August 8, 200717 yr Zebra, do you have photos of the buildings you are using for your future aviary ? Also, is your floorplan based on existing structures ? and what are your measurements ?
August 8, 200717 yr Author Yes, we have a building which we want to rebuild. I have one photo, I have posted it here before. It doesn't look good, it used to be a pig stable or something, but we will repair it and clean it and it should be okay. I don't have the measurements yet, I will hopefully measure it this weekend. This is the building [/img] Edited August 8, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
