October 13, 200717 yr Author No camera again so I was going to give you a video of them to find that it's flat and I can't find the charger for it :budgiedance: But the outcome is: Cage 1 oldest (from Reepi and Kazza) is a sky blue M. Spangle (just like dad) Youngest (foster from Berry and Kree) is a grey-green normal Cage 2 Oldest is a green spangle Middle is a grey-green spangle Youngest is a grey-green normal
October 13, 200717 yr Sounds great Nerwen..:budgiedance: Hope you find the charger soon.. Pics will be good.. Good luck.
October 13, 200717 yr I always have some young chicks out of the nest long before time, as my nest boxes are low, I think it must be just over excited chicks trying to get extra food at the door & fall out. I just return them, some are out again later. It will be good when the cameras fixed Nerwen, I like seeing pictures of Melanistic chicks.
October 15, 200717 yr Author okay guys they aren't the best as they where taken right now when I couldn't see much and a few are slightly fuzzy but you get at least an idea of how they are going. Cage 1 Sorry I missed the tail of the blue one which is the m. spangle Cage 2
October 15, 200717 yr Looking good That grey green spangle has a decent size head Edited October 15, 200717 yr by KAZ
October 15, 200717 yr Looking good That grey green spangle has a decent size head Nerwen tell me you got a ring on that Spangle... please.... The back skull and the wing markings looks good. Might be one to bring to a table show. I'll lend you show cage.
October 16, 200717 yr Author :bluebudgie: Sorry Daz I'm going to have to wait for another round of these two to get a spangle with the correct rings. But all the chicks are about the same size. This one has the correct ring - pr 1502 Edited October 16, 200717 yr by Nerwen
October 16, 200717 yr Aww cute fluffy bums.I miss the fluffy bums of baby budgies. Its so great having this thread to see yours Nerwen. Thanks for sharing!!!
October 16, 200717 yr Nerwen this one isn't bad either. I'd keep an eye on it's development. Plenty of Budgie starter and no vegetables until it gets to 21 days old. :bluebudgie:
October 16, 200717 yr I agree those chicks look good Nerwen...so that's one of the secrets they think helps get the best show birds Daz...slowly we are finding the secrets...I always give mine plenty of greens they seem to feed better, I thought when given plenty of different greens I thought I was doing the "right" thing. At least I think they will be healthier. Pump em full of starch eh....(Laughing out loud). Edited October 16, 200717 yr by Norm
October 17, 200717 yr I agree those chicks look good Nerwen...so that's one of the secrets they think helps get the best show birds Daz...slowly we are finding the secrets...I always give mine plenty of greens they seem to feed better, I thought when given plenty of different greens I thought I was doing the "right" thing. At least I think they will be healthier. Pump em full of starch eh....lol. Hi Norm no pump them full of protein. The hen will feed this through to the chicks. After 21 days old I start feeding the greens. My soft food is 1 part soaked wheat, 2 parts soaked oats, 1 part grated carrots, 2 parts mixed Budgie starter Crumbles and powdered egg yolk. This mix is 1 part powdered egg yolk, 2 part crumbles, 4 parts budgie starter. I feed the soft food in the morning and remove whats not eaten in the afternoon. This is feed a few days before hatching right through until they leave the nursery cage to the flights. So they are on it for the first 3 months of life. Greens are introduced when the chicks are 21 days. Water supplements are also important. Vitamins, Calcium, Probotics, Minerals. Show birds are not raised on seed & water.
October 17, 200717 yr Author Cheers Daz I'm watching closely as this one might just end up being my first entered show budgie. But I feel from what I see of them all that the grey-green normal (in cage 2) has the fluffest head and that one doesn't have a ring at all
October 17, 200717 yr the grey-green normal (in cage 2) has the fluffest head and that one doesn't have a ring at all Murphys law...they call it. I have a couple of surprise birds that didnt have rings either. Dont know if its the same all round but you can show an unrung bird but it has to go into adult class...thats how its works here anyway.
October 17, 200717 yr Yes that Murphy’s law…always rearing it’s head…must be one of the most common laws…(Laughing out loud). PS. Thanks for all that info Daz....sorry I should have said protein not starch.
October 21, 200717 yr Author yeah I know and I thought of this outcome when I wasn't able to get the ring on But I have some more pictures now. and I think I saw what Daz and Kaz saw before in the grey-green spangle. Cage 1 Oldest Skyblue M.Spangle cock- Youngest Grey-green normal cock- Cage 2 Oldest Green spangle hen (dad behind) - Second Grey-green spangle cock - Third grey-green normal hen -
October 21, 200717 yr Congrats on all your beautiful babies nerwen.I love the last hen,she looks like a character!
October 25, 200717 yr Author Just an update the oldest in cage 1 and the two oldest in cage 2 are starting to spend the nights out of the boxes. All the babies spend most of the day outside as well. Both hens have 2 eggs. Berry had three but again someone had started to eat it, her two are fertile, Reepi's is too soon to tell. I have one saved egg from Thistle that she never sat on before I broke them up again so I'm planning to place it under Berry on the weekend and see what happens.
