No pictures sorry you will have to wait for the weekend.

Berry's egg which was fostered to Reepicheep hatched today giving her two babies. The other eggs are over due and duds so it seems this is the end Until new eggs appear with the other two pairs. This means the oldest if from her and Kazza the youngest from her sister Berry and Kree.

Being dead tired Monday night meant the youngest in Cage 2 didn't get a leg ring (not that they are the correct show ones so it doesn't matter) since he was too big. Yellow wing markings are showing on the other two.

Cage 3 and 4 No eggs as yet.

Love spangles.

Nerwen have you thought what variety you would like to start showing?

If you could get some PR rings on those chicks you could show in the last show of the year. Wynnum in November.

No hurray though as We have the first show of the year in February. If your coming to the Auction tomorrow, you can talk to Greg about the ring. :)

I'm not worried about what 'type' to show although like you I love spangles. Opalines and Dominant pieds are the other ones I like.

and Yes I"m planning on coming to watch.

They are growing so fast :( I got some show rings on the weekend and wish I had some spare cash to buy up some great birds! So one bub (Reep and Kazza) as a correct ring now just waiting for the other to grow up some more to ring correctly as well, I'm hoping that one is another spangle :ausb:

If the heat continues to rise i might have to rethink my idea of giving them another round.

Chicks are looking really cute Nerwen. You will have to let us know when you have your first show.I will try and come and have a look!

The chicks are looking great Nerwen! :)

:D It would be good to see you again FGM.

It looks as if the oldest in Cage 1 is a normal with black tail pins showing now.

In cage 2 the oldest is colouring as green the other two look to be grey-greens. The youngest which is in fact in cage 1 is too young to tell colour. He was rung this evening.

How lod do you ring the chicks nerwen?

  • Author

Wow I must be tired it took me almost a minute to rearrange lod to make the word old :)

It depends I normally start to think about it around day 5 if large I will try and see if it stays on and I find by day 7 I have some trouble getting over the joint.

I will get pictures again on the weekend to show the development of them all.

Bit of a surprise getting home from work today to be told one of the bubs was out and somehow the mother got out of the cage !!!!!!! luckily she was caught up and put back in. Going out to check I found the two youngest babies in cage 2 out on the ground. No marks to make me think of them being forced out of the box by mum or dad. Both had only small amount of food in their crops but by night fall all in the box and mum in with them so it seems they were just exploring a little early.

I'm glad your bubs are okay..:)

The hen could have been startled and took the chick with it out of the box. How deep are your boxes Nerwen?

That one has a low entrance hole so that is mostly likely what happened. Since they are at the age to be sitting at the door begging.
