August 28, 200717 yr Hi Nerwen, you move your eggs around more than I do Mind you, I do move the chicks around a lot. I am closely watching a hen that has 2 chicks in case she starts getting aggressive or wants to lay eggs again. Feathers.
August 29, 200717 yr Author I think it was becuase I was too chicken to simply remove them in the first place. Some good news is I have finally seen some bonding happening with Reepicheep and Kazza (cage one) this lot of eggs may be clear but I leave them in together the second clutch may give better results.
September 3, 200717 yr Author update: Cage 1 - Kazza and Reepicheep One of them damaged all the eggs so I removed them. (although she was still sitting on the ones with only a slight crack) There are starting to bond at last which is good. There is 2 new eggs. Cage 2 - Kree and Berry She is sitting on 6 eggs 5 of which are fertile. Cage 3 - Poka and Ringo Nothing! Both like to spend heaps of time in the box. Cage 4 - Pie and Thistle Still with 3 eggs which I'm not sure is she brooding or not. So far none are showing signs of being fertile. Edited September 3, 200717 yr by Nerwen can't count
September 3, 200717 yr At 3 weeks, i'd remove any pairs that didn't have eggs and let fly for a couple of weeks. If you have another hen that could mate with the cock then wait a week and try that pair, but give the first hen a rest for a few weeks.
September 3, 200717 yr Author Yes I'm getting to that stage. But the only other hens I have is Tootie the TCB or Elly YF normal who is only 11 months.
September 6, 200717 yr Author Update: Cage 1 3 eggs 2nd one is fertile. She is due today for another egg. Cage 2 7 eggs all up I still only know of 5 fertile it is too early to tell for the last ones. She seem to have stopped at 7 (egg was due yesterday) Cage 3 She is sitting on one of Thistles eggs. I have recalled finding a couple of left over egg shells in the box so I was wondering if it was becuase both where in there. So far this one isn't broken but I believe it is clear. If she doesn't lay some more of her own in the next few days I'll break up the pair. I think I might try him with another. Cage 4 Removed all the eggs since she wasn't sitting on them and it was over a week. If she doesn't start a new round I will break up the pair.
September 12, 200717 yr Author Cage 1 5 eggs one is fostered from her sister (fertile) to help lighten her load I know of 2 that are fertile her first was clear. Cage 2 5 eggs all fertile and 1 bub! Sorry Aly no great Bum shots this time. :(Laughing out loud): She is very protective which is good. As you can see crop is empty I've left them alone and will check again shortly. September 13, 200717 yr Author Thank Bea, all is good Mother is feeding the baby. I am going to set up a new pair very soon. I got Connie the Yellowface spangle that lives with my friend and am going to try her with Poka, who in the aviary is already back to flirting with the wall or calcium bells rather than Ringo :(Laughing out loud): If things go well I will get some MORE spangles (just realised this would be the third cage with a spangle in it) and maybe even some cinnamons. So glad I love spangles. I'm giving her a day here (well half a day) then moving her to the cage tomorrow and think I will add him on sunday (he will be in a spare cage away from Ringo for those days as well. Unless you guys think I should add them together. I'm not worried with quarantine since she is an only bird and I have had knowledge of her heath and behaviour with visits (plus past stays with me)
September 13, 200717 yr Might pay to put her on some SPARX for a couple of days Nerwen...just to ease the moving stress and straight into breeding mode stresses that can occur with budgies Connie, I mean Edited September 13, 200717 yr by KAZ
September 13, 200717 yr Author good idea Kaz, that's why I was giving her a few days before adding Poka too. She is showing all the signs of ready to breed chewing the bark of her branch within a few days and such.
September 13, 200717 yr Author Thank all Bub two is here as well. I think I checked just after hatching as the shell was just there and he looked weak, plus the small line of cord that was still wet looking. When I recheck later I must remind myself to see if Berry has removed the extra wood shaving or not. shavings all pushed aside, will add more later on. Edited September 14, 200717 yr by Nerwen
September 14, 200717 yr Author Yep The Pet stock store here has it as well in the Passwell brand. It's been added to their fresh food for a little while now. (week or two) why?
September 16, 200717 yr Author Bub 3 is here. It hatched from egg number 6 as I felt for a while 5 was DIS I checked it yesterday and as I thought it stopped growing at an early stage. I didn't expect another hatching until later this week. Also I have re-set up Pie and Thistle to see how they go, he hardly left her side during the week and she has already been back in the box. I realised the other day that Pie is the Great-grandfather to these new bubs :(Laughing out loud):
September 18, 200717 yr Woo more babies. I been telling Scuttle he's an uncle again but he just sits there and squeaks, don't think he knows what I'm saying (Laughing out loud)
September 19, 200717 yr Author he is a silly boy, any better at the talking? And I've just realised all breeding pairs relate back to the one family line at the moment... man I need some new blood in my flock. I have Ringo and Poka back together (dominant pied to recessive pied) since they where seen mating in the aviary and she had a swollen vent. Silly hen dropped the egg out side of the nest box.
September 20, 200717 yr That Ringo sure is a pain (Laughing out loud). And when you say you need new blood does that mean you're considering getting a few more birds, or was it just an observation for now (Laughing out loud). And no more talking from Scuttle yet. Still mumbles 'good boy' every now and then but I'm gonna try and get him to say 'cheeky bugger' now (Laughing out loud)
September 20, 200717 yr Author :oliveb: I know I need some more birds of the show type to help me and the lines. Edited September 20, 200717 yr by Nerwen
September 20, 200717 yr And I've just realised all breeding pairs relate back to the one family line at the moment... man I need some new blood in my flock. I know that feeling well!! :oliveb:
September 21, 200717 yr Author :budgiedance: And I wouldn't mind stealing some of your new blood Bea! Cage 1 has one bub being well looked after by mum. Cage 2 The tree bubs are doing well. The egg marked 7 is a few days late. I don't know why but I have a feeling the oldest is a spangle.
