Posted August 3, 200718 yr A friend of mine who also breeds budgies let me know about another method for sexing budgies that I haven't seen discussed on here. I'm sorry that i don'tknow the name for it but i hope someone will understand what im on about. At the bottom of the bird near the vent you can feel very clearly two small bones. The gap between these bones is noticaley larger on a female then on a male. I have tested this on a few of my young ones and seems to hold true so far. Anyone have any thoughts on this method? is it discouraged for areason or is it completely false? thanks for your thoughts
August 3, 200718 yr These are the pelvis bones. It is one way to sex peach faces. It would probably work for Most parrots.
August 3, 200718 yr I have heard of it but I also heard that it is not always accurate and is not good idea to be pressing down there because the bones are so fragile so unless you know exactly what you are doing it is not recommended.
August 3, 200718 yr I would think,by the time they are old enough to do that test, you would be able to tell by the colour of the cere.
August 3, 200718 yr I agree with Macka...it's used with birds like African love birds, but they have to be mature for it to work very accurately. Edited August 3, 200718 yr by Norm
August 4, 200718 yr I've heard of this method too. Also, the males pelvic bones will be pointy, and the females blunt.
