March 11, 200817 yr Great photos Kaz and I love the comments! Steel looks rather cross with you in the last photo.
March 12, 200817 yr I love it. I've had males go into the nest box with his hen, but never sit on her eggs for her. It's very sweet!
March 12, 200817 yr Author The heat affected Bih Lin in the nestbox today so she got off the eggs and spent some time in the breeder cage. I dosed her with some meds for her very slightly pooey bottom and gave her some calcivet and she got back on the eggs late this afternoon. In the meantime, Steel got in the nest and sat on the eggs the whole day, only coming out for drinks and seed and straight back onto the eggs.
March 12, 200817 yr i hope she recovers from the heat,it is great the way they are so devoted to each other and their eggs.
March 13, 200817 yr Author i hope she recovers from the heat,it is great the way they are so devoted to each other and their eggs. Â Â :yellowhead: I just found Bih lin dead on the bottom of the breeder cage. I have put Steel back into the aviary and I have transferred the eggs to another hen. Â
March 13, 200817 yr i am so sorry Kaz,how is Steel and you coping,i really pray that the eggs will hatch and one will look just like Bih lin so you will have a reminder of her with you all the time.

Steel was trying to keep the eggs going. I dont know if the hen I put them with will manage to raise anything from them as I dont really know how long they were cold. At least Steel has shown his true merit as a father and partner....he's one of a kind that boy. I am very sad about Bih Lin. Other things going on at home so this just brings me crashing down in spirit. :yellowhead:
March 13, 200817 yr I just finished reading this whole post from beginning to end and was admiring what absolutely beautiful birds these guys both are. Then I read you lost Bih Lin and I was shocked and so sad for you. That would be really awful :yellowhead: I'm so sorry to hear of your loss and I hope some of the eggs survive and you get a baby who looks like its mum. We are having the worst heat wave in Adelaide on record at the moment, so far 11 days over 35C. I have been really lucky so far, if my birds can just hang on through this til next Wednesday, when a break is supposed to be in sight. *hugs* Kaz, sorry again for your loss of such a beautiful bird.
March 13, 200817 yr Author oh no!!!!!!!!! soo sorry you lost her kaz any ideas what it was? Not really...she hadnt been sick as such...just out of the cage late afternoon with a slightly pooey bottom....nothing major. Not eggbound in any way. No cocci or anything like that. Possibilites seem to be she wasnt eating enough while she sat on the eggs and the additional heat knocked her off, or she got ecoli from food or water. But for ecoli to happen Steel would have been sick too and there was none of that....and they get fresh seed and water twice daily.
March 13, 200817 yr I'm So sorry Kaz I stunned that that happened to her. She was looking so happy and healthy. Shows just how well they hide illness. (((HUGS)))

March 14, 200817 yr Kaz, Â this is a very sad ending as they were both such devoted parent. I am really sorry that you lost her. Bih-Lin was one of your "special" birds. I can only imagine how low you must have felt finding her. Â *hugz and love* Â Â Feathers. Edited March 14, 200817 yr by Feathers

March 14, 200817 yr Author Sorry to Hear this Mate, Thoughts are with you ..... Is he distressed , I know when Angels Died last year Michael was always calling for her :budgiedance: He is looking around the aviary and clinging onto the aviary wire looking out. I am sure he will settle but they were bonded, these two, from the age of chicks. I will watch him. Â The hen I fostered the eggs to is sitting on them. I hope they werent cold too long before I moved them. Edited March 14, 200817 yr by KAZ

March 15, 200817 yr Author Checked the eggs under the foster Mum. One had been damaged and an almost fully formed chick inside had died due to a largish hole in the egg. Fingers crossed for the others. Steel is "chirpier" today.....not brilliant but better.
