Posted July 30, 200717 yr I've had these guys a few weeks, recently got an interest in breeding after having Budgies for years. I'm almost positive I have a male and female, but I thought I'd ask you guys second opinion. They are both from completely different breeders, of course. I've done months of research before starting into this. Thank you! http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=p1000941bn5.jpg Edited July 30, 200717 yr by Daz Photo was greater than 450 x 450 pixels so changed to a link.
July 30, 200717 yr the front one looks female the one in the back looks like a young male and if this is a current picture is too young to be breeding. Your budgie should be at least 12-18 month old before they breed so they are mentally ready to raise a cluth.

July 31, 200717 yr Do you know how old they are? The hen seems to be at the age of changing to the brown cere, if they are the same age it is possible they are from the same clutch. Did you buy them together? The one at the back might be a male getting the dark blue cere but if very young (under 3 months) I would think a girl.
July 31, 200717 yr There is still evidance of banding on the male. I think you could be right Nerwen, they could be about 3 months old. Edited July 31, 200717 yr by Daz

Well, I've had the one with the white cere a few weeks, and the one with the blue about 4 months.
July 31, 200717 yr So they are at the age of losing their baby feathers and getting the adult plumage.
July 31, 200717 yr So that gives you 7 months to wait until the male is old enough to breed and at least 8 months until your female is old enough to breed. Plenty of time to research and learn all about budgies, and make them healthy happy birds P.S. Regardless of what a petsore or anyone tells you, do NOT put a nesting box into their cage until they are both around 12 months of age.....for the birds sake Edited July 31, 200717 yr by **KAZ**
July 31, 200717 yr I am just seconding the nestbox...don't do it they will breed even if they are too young if you give them the right condition. This is usually comes with heartbreak for the breeder and the birds so please wait until they are of correct breeding age.
