I paired up my first Spangle to Spangle…the hen is a Light Green Spangle…the **** a Dark Green Spangle…he is split for Opaline & could be split for Lutino or Lacewing as his father was split for both.

They have five young at the pin feather stage…three look like Green Spangles, but the one I want some advice on is Yellow, it had Pinkish eyes when young, they now look black, so I guess it’s not a Lutino, does anyone know if DF Spangles have Pinkish or plum eyes at first? As it did, it was more like a Cinnamon, but Dad isn’t split for Cinnamon, so I’m hoping it’s a Lacewing, but so far no sign of Cinnamon in it’s wings…the third young maybe a DF Spangle as it’s feathers are yellow like a Lutino or DF Spangle & I didn’t notice it had pinkish eyes while it was real young & they look black now.

 

God we are being censured now…you can say hen, but can’t say ****…so the "father" :(Laughing out loud): is a Dark Green Spangles…(Laughing out loud)….

Cinnamon do have plum eyes and then they change

are you positive dad is not split for cinnamon this could be a hidden trait for a couple generations

if you are positive I would think a double factor as there is a 25% chance

I’m pretty sure Elly that he isn’t split for Cinnamon, as his father had two batches & if he was split for Cinnamon I would have expected some Cinnamon hens & I only got that Lacewing hen. Split Cinnamon won’t stay hidden for too many generations like Recessives…what I want to know is from anyone with experience with DF Spangles if they start off with Pinkish eyes. Or do they have Black eye right from the start.

You could still find that it could be a cinnamon gene in the DF Spangle. It would have to be a hen if thats the case.

The DF will mask some genes especially in the green series. It masks yellowface as well.

He has produced a lacewing hen? Just clarifying because that is cinnamon and ino gene combined so that would mean he is carrying the cinnamon gene? I am confused :budgiedance:

Thanks for that Daz, so it might even be a Lacewing, but it wont show because of masking by DF Spangle. I also had thought of breeding a DF Spangle YF, so that looks like it wont work either. I’m not keen on pure white birds myself, so thought if I mated two YF Blue Spangles I could get a white bird with a YF [Yellow Face] does it always mask it or only sometimes?…very interesting stuff. :budgiedance:

Norm only the green series DF Spangle with mask the yellowface. The blue series will not. So Spangle Yellowface blues will give a yellowface white df spangle.

That DF Spangle chick that I thought might be a Lacewing. Well yesterday the chicks had started leaving the nest, looked like a nice batch, the hen [mother] is a show type bird, throws some nice big birds. So I went to start writing down their ring numbers & of course the DF Spangle chick has dropped its flight feathers, the only one in the batch, so far. French moult [Polyomas virus] see Splat what did I tell you.

The YF gene you have been talking about well the Yf will only stay one the face if the birds are Type 1. Type 2 YF DF spangles the yellow will bleed through the body. I have YF DF spangles and they are gorgeous but all yellow..

Thanks for those pictures Lady, yes I understand it will depend on the amount of bleed of each bird, I don’t know if I have any YF1’s but my YF2’s vary in the amount of bleed.
