Snowy's still sick....

Okay. I think I've posted about the same thing in too many topics now, sorry. But I really am worried about her! Snowy's been ill for at least two weeks with runny poos and she's been tired. I did give her some celery before she got sick, which may have been a little old, of course, I didn't know this - I even tasted it.

Well, when I was lucky enough for my Dad to take me to the vet and pay some of the bill, the vet said that she may have some sort of fungal toxins and stress from moulting. So she's on antibiotics for ten days, this is the sixth day, and just as I thought she was improving, she's doing wees now. I'm really scared, cos I have lost a budgie before, he was only three......

I've been reading all the other member's posts.....you guys all support each other! I just wish I knew what was happening and what to do. I'm finding it hard to concentrate on much else besides her, although I know sitting beside her all day doesn't help.

I don't know what to do.....five years is not old......

Ant.

Yes, you have posted in too many threads...but I understand your concern. You need to give people time to answer. Unfortunately, with very urgent problems a phone call to the vet is a much better bet than waiting for an answer online. I hope I don't come across as hard, because I really know how you feel about not wanting to lose your bird. I just lost my best buddy after 4 years to a kidney tumor on December 13, so I'm right there with you... But we can't control when our members will read this, so sometimes a quick answer won't be forthcoming.

You've got to call your vet. There are a lot of things that could cause this. I don't think it was the celery. If it was bad, it would be out of her system by now anyway. Is your vet an avian vet? Did they do any fecal tests or take any blood? Did they test for kidney/liver function? Sometimes antibiotics and other drugs will make your bird more thirsty, and cause them to excrete more urine. If the vet thinks her problems are fungal in nature, she is probably on an antifungal which (I'm sorry) I don't know what the side effects are of that. My birds have been on them before, but it's been awhile and I don't remember if they experienced any side effects. If I were you, I would call your vet's office as soon as you can, tell them about the change in her behavior, and find out if they need to see her again.

You are right, five years is not that old. And it does help just sitting next to her, believe me. Hugs to you. Let us know what the vet says.

Hope she is soon feeling better Antt... its never nice when someone you care for gets sick. What did you vet say? Did you call yet?

Chris

Don't gorget to keep your bird warm too.

Good Vibes to you and Snowy.

Yeah, when she went to the vet (avian, yes), fecal tests were taken. The vet *did* say that the medicine could make her droppings more watery...but not that much. Anyway, she's up as she usually is this morning chirping at the lorikeets flying around the block, so she's fine for now. Thanks everyone...I'll keep you posted.

Well, that is good news. I'm sure you are somewhat relieved. I'm glad. :(

Sounds like a huge weight have been lifted off your shoulder. I hope Snowy keeps on improving in the right direction!! All the best.

Thanks again everyone. Today is Snowy's last day on the medication - she's definitely doing well, just a little tired. Yay!

Im glad to hear she's getting better, Best of luck for u and ur little friend! :P

:P hey, good news then, hope she/he (when you deside what gender snowy is) does well it the future.

That sounds good-well done.

Julie

Arghh...just when I think Snowy's getting better, he's still doing some watery droppings! But he looks okay, more awake. Oh well maybe he's still recovering.
