August 7, 200717 yr It is so great that Marty is such a great companion for your son! He looks like a real cheeky and inquisitive little budgie and a lot of fun! He is just very gorgeous!!
August 10, 200717 yr Author Thanks for the feedback guys. Thomas my son is crazy about his little Marty . . actually we all are My son and I will be competing at the Australian National Taekwondo Championships soon and my son wanted to be able to keep an eye on his Marty while we are away, so I've been experimenting with a Webcam for him. Looks like we are going to set up a webcam on my laptop and log into it from Adelaide while at the hotel. If you want to check out Marty in real time, have a look At his WEBCAM HERE Best Regards Paul
August 10, 200717 yr that is a cool idea to use a webcam. l checked it out and l saw Marty he is shuch a cute bird l might get a webcam to use it to see how my birds are when l go away too. Edited August 10, 200717 yr by birdluv
August 10, 200717 yr Author Sorry if it the Webcam stops and starts, I've been playing with settings etc. The software I'm using is called WebcamXP and its a 21 day trial, So I'm trying to work out what it can do. I've stopped playing with it for now you can run more than one webcam too. So we might be able to watch him at different angles. This poor bird must think he's ended up in a crazy house! I'm going to leave it on for another 8 hours or so to see how stable it is. If all works out okay, I'll buy a copy Marty isn't too sure about this webcam thing at the cage opening :-)
August 10, 200717 yr It's a great idea. My husband wanted to do it too if we go away, but I'm afraid I'd see something scary and I'd want to come back
August 11, 200717 yr Author Hi Guys, I found the BEST ANGLE to video Marty from. You get a much better view of him from this vantage point. I will let this webcast run for about 8 hours or so. Cheers Paul
August 11, 200717 yr l saw him today again, that is a really good angle. he was sitting right in front of the camera.
August 11, 200717 yr Author Thanks Guys, I was at my sisters house and we were also checking out little Marty. As soon as it got dark you couldn't see anything. I might set it up so it takes Gallery photos throughout the day, so if we don't make it back to our hotel room in time, we can still look back on his day
October 5, 200717 yr Author We got back from Adelaide and young marty is A-okay!!!! My son has been driving him nuts all this week because he wont leave the poor bird alone for a minute, but then again Marty does seem to be coming back for more. I will post some more pictures of him along with a Youtube video. He is almost 5 months old now
October 6, 200717 yr Author I tried apples and veggies a while ago and he wouldn't even touch them. I might try again. He doesn't like anything new in his cage. Speaking of which it leads me to the following: Bird City told us we needed to worm him every six months and said he would be due at the begining of this month. So we went to Bird City and purchased Vetafarm Wormout Gel. I followed the directions and added it to water and put it in his cage. The water is now an orange color and he didn't even want to go back into his cage. I put him in there and now he is staying well away from his water. Is this normal, and whats the possibility of him actually drinking some of it? See, I'm back in form with my silly questions again Cheers Paul

The one you have put in the water is usually meant to be for 3 days or so ( check the directions ) but not meant to be left until it goes horrible. You may have to refresh it. But how long has it been in there ?
October 6, 200717 yr Author Hi Kaz, Thanks for the info. I only just put it in the water a few hours ago. Its orange in color and the water has changed to the same color too. Marty knows there is something fishy going on and is keeping clear of it. I can't see him drinking it. We will keep an eye out to see if he does have a sip, but I'm betting he wont. The instructions say to leave it in the water for 48 hours and only have dry foods in the cage, so as to encourage him to has some water. The guy at Bird City also said to keep an eye on him because 1 in 10000 react badly to this stuff Man this is just like having a child again, so much stress!!!

I have never had a budgies with a bad reaction. In the height of summer when they drink a bit more you might have a problem but I think it will be fine. If you lived closer I could show you how to dose directly into the crop by crop needle. Quick and easy and over and done with, but needs to be shown. Marty will drink some, but you may not see him do it
October 6, 200717 yr Author Thanks Kaz, The dose directly into the crop by crop needle, sounds fantastic and a lot less fussing around. Bummer that you are so far away, but hey you've been very helpful. This forum and its members are the BEST!! Best Regards Paul
October 6, 200717 yr The colouring of the water just sounds like the med reacting to the dish (leaching colour from the plastic) I've had meds do that before and also react to the sun by going darker. Try a metal dish or a white/clear dish if you can.
October 6, 200717 yr Author Marty had a drink of his Orange water this morning. I don't think he liked it, but he drank it which is what counts Looks like all is good in the Marty Household.
October 7, 200717 yr Hi Marty, I have never had any problems with the wormout gel before, it works really well and is always a yellow colour. Check in the next couple of days... you may be rewarded with some 'curly' droppings. Feathers.
October 7, 200717 yr So are the worms visible in the droppings Very occassionally! Mostly no, but when quite often when worming birds I get 'curly' poops, which is a sign that they, unfortunately, did have worms and that the gel is working. You have seen Marty drinking the water, so you know that he is getting the required treatment. Feathers.
