July 9, 200718 yr I don't breed so it will be interesting what others say about stimulating through diet. I read a couple different articles today about it since you asked the question. In my opinion they need to be fed a well balanced diet. What do you feed your birds now? We can help you improve what you are doing right now to keep your birds healthy while they are breeding.
July 9, 200718 yr Good nutritious food will help bring birds into condition for breeding. Green food every day, small amounts, but as fresh as possible, corn, carrot, green peas, leafy green vegetables & seeding grasses, if they can be obtained from safe areas. As well as their seed diet you can hard boil eggs [10 minutes] & chop up very small & mix with other ingredients, there are formulas used by other on this site, under feeding.
July 30, 200718 yr I breed and a good way to get them into breeding condition is extend the day by putting a light on in their roost. Budgies will naturaly go into breeding condition in the wild when the days grow longer. Spray budgies with luke warm water every day it perks them up. Give plenty of food and let nature do the rest. One point when they have hatched the eggs put a night light in the area of their cage as this will help mum to find her way back to the box if she has to come out of a night time. If she can't get back the chicks will die. Good luck and keep us posted.
