Posted July 1, 200717 yr okay some of you might remember my first babies, well I have a question for all those genetic wizards out there.I always thought Poppy was a normal type of blue but now he is growing I can see small differences. His parents were a lacewing lutino and a normal green split lutino. here are some pics, first one shows a blue feather on the back of his head markings on his wings his tail his back showing his cere Poppy was born mid novenber last year,I forget when the cere is suppose to change colour? Any ideas? Edited July 1, 200717 yr by FGM
July 1, 200717 yr Author sorry guys I will try and fix it I don't know what is going on. Got all but one photo up,don't know what is happening, its something to do with photobuckets settings. Edited July 1, 200717 yr by FGM
July 2, 200717 yr very odd the loss of colour in the tail is interest. Can we get pictures of when he was young becuase I'm not seeing anything odd about the wings.
July 2, 200717 yr Author Here is some baby photos(hopefully). It was the white markings on the wings that I had never seen before and of course the white on the tail.Poppy looked like a normal baby I think, well that's what you guys said when I originaly posted the pics. He is a very cheeky budgie, will dance backwards and forwards at the front of the cage looking all sweet and as soon as you get close starts biting and making angry budgie sounds. A real character who is now living with Rocky my grey girl that i kept when I sold the aviary.
July 2, 200717 yr do you have any more of when he was feathered up more? The tail as Nerwen is throwing me off as that seems like it is spangle tail The cere should have changed by now...is it still bright pink or some blue?
July 2, 200717 yr Author Cere is purplish/blue,like a dark eyed clear or lutino male..Will look for more photos today. It's puzzling.
July 2, 200717 yr Yes that is what I thought too Karen but they are meant to be clear at birth not loss colour later. Has there been any stress to Poppy the last few months?
July 2, 200717 yr Author No stress to him at all and he has had these colour feathers since he first feathered up.I always use to play with his blue feather on his head as a baby.Still looking through discs for more photos, long process for someone who takes photos everyday. Tail looks a little bit melanistic spangle ? Very interesting Kaz.
July 2, 200717 yr Yes very interesting, seems like lots of maybe Melanistic Spangle influence in birds in that Brisbane area, lucky. I see what looks like one completely white feather in the wing, is that what you mean? This bird is already into its adult moult, but no sign of the characteristic wing marking of Microsoft Corporation ®. I had a Sky Blue that had French moult & after it grew back its tail it is white like the Microsoft Corporation ®, but I’m pretty sure it’s from stress nothing else. Edited July 2, 200717 yr by Norm
July 3, 200717 yr Author I see what looks like one completely white feather in the wing, is that what you mean? Yes these markings and the white on the tail made me wonder.I have had a look at photos and there was no white on his tail before but has always had white markings on his grey bit on his wings. I'm thinking its stress, will keep you all updated and give him some extra supplements.
