Birds Really Protective Of The Nest

Hi! :parrot:

Well yesterday, I cleaned out the cage, and I had to move the nesting box around a little, and when I tried to reach in to take my Budgies out, Waxy, (the Male) squacked at me, and he NEVER does that, and once I got him out, Buttercup ( the Female) jumped on top of the nesting box and tried to stay on top of it and not let me take her off. I looked inside and there was no eggs, would that mean that they are getting it ready for eggs, and protecting it?

Sorry for asking so many questions, this is my first time breeding them and I'm really excited! I want the best for my babies!

Probably is a sign, usually they don’t get too protective before they have eggs, but depends on the birds some are pretty savage others quite calm.
